 After discussing this patch with Erik, we figured out the details of how
 things should work.

 I have now commmitted this patch. I also committed a second patch which
 brings back the sync-parfiles and sync-sources config ini options, the
 --sync-parfiles and --sync-sourcetree arguments, support for syncing to
 multiple machines in a single command and the use of -p/--sync-path for
 specifying additional paths to sync.
