Comment:

 This was the problem.  Accepting the certificate permanently on the
 affected machine by manually checking out the repository allows the
 automated checkout to work.  Tests are now running again (all pass) and
 results are available at
 http://damiana2.aei.mpg.de/~ianhin/testsuites/einsteintoolkit/.
