Comment:

 Patch looks ok. One comment: maybe we want to add a define for COLLAPSE
 (uppercase) as well as collapse for the Fortran case to provide some case
 insensitivity (assuming that no one spells collapse as "CoLllaSE" in
 Fortran even though they migh).
