 If there is a boolean, then there also needs to be a check that people
 don't modify the *_ini parameter without modifying the boolean.

 It would be simpler to set the default of the *_ini parameter to -1000000
 (this will never be used in an actual simulation). In this way, if one
 sets the *_ini parameter, it will be used, and existing parameter files do
 not need to be changed.
