 The manpage on my system mentiones

 .make.state  .nse_depinfo  *~
                      #*  .#*  ,* _$* *$ *.old *.bak *.BAK *.orig *.rej
 .del-* *.a *.olb *.o *.obj
                      *.so *.exe *.Z *.elc *.ln core .svn/ .git/ .bzr/

 plus a few special cases involving .cvsignore directories which we are not
 likely using, are we?
