Comment (by hinder):

 I thought about this, but why is there a difference between the main
 executable and the utilities?  Is it because the main executable calls
 MPI_Init?  This could be bypassed for printing the parameters.  Or is it
 that the main executable is cross-compiled whereas the utilities are not?
