 Just to add to the discussion: I've also had problems with filenames
 containing colons in Samba-mounted filesystems. The AEI cluster
 filesystems can now be mounted on external machines
 (http://supercomputers.aei.mpg.de/high-performance-computing/samba-lustre-
 file-system-export-1/samba-lustre-file-system-export), but filenames that
 contain colons are mangled beyond recognition, making the service unusable
 for looking at Cactus data. The option to have an alternative would be
 welcome under this respect too.
