 The disadvantage is that .rpar files require a bit of boilerplate to write
 a Perl/Python/Bash script that generates a parameter file, and to quote
 existing dollar signs in the parameter file. In my case, this script would
 not need to do anything except define a variable (e.g. "rho=@RHO@"), and
 expand it.
