Comment (by hinder):

 After discussion in the ET call today, we decided that the proposed
 feature introduces only an incremental increase in the work needed to
 parse a parameter file, and that if we were to use a richer language with
 scripting features, it would likely be separate to the current parameter
 file mechanism.  So the patch should be applied.
