 It probes some places, and hard-codes the libs to mpi mpi_cxx.

 I would say that guessing MPI_DIR/lib and MPI_DIR/include would be a
 fairly good guess.  For the libraries, "mpi" sounds good.  Does it make
 sense to put logic supporting each of the common MPI implementations into
 the script, or try to get the compiler wrapper approach to work?
