 This is not just an OSX problem.

 I witnessed the same error message on RHEL6 (Stampede), preventing me from
 compiling. In the end, I just grabbed the tarball and added the LSUThorns
 package manually. Given how widespread RHEL6 is, increased priority is
 justified.

 I do not see this behavior on Ubuntu 14.04.3.
