 There is mention of this here:
 https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=61570.  I tried compiling a
 simple hello world program, and if you compile with -march=native (as in
 ubuntu.cfg), the compiler aborts saying that your CPU doesn't support 64
 bit instructions. Maybe a newer version of gcc has this fixed or a
 workaround, though it sounds like a qemu/KVM problem to me.
