 You are correct; this only works on the finest level.  I tried many
 different things (2 years ago, so I don't recall the details), and this
 was the only thing that actually seemed to work, at least in unigrid or on
 the finest level with mesh refinement.  Assuming that CarpetInterp has
 access to the interpolator option table, which it probably does, then yes,
 it should be there instead of a parameter.
