from the farthest corners of middle-earth, bilbo had been standing by frodo's side for months, protecting him as best he could in the face of the shadow. as frodo stumbled towards the final, deadly attack, bilbo whispered a word of elven-lore into his ear:
the installation is rather simple, just extract the mod to my documents\electronic arts\the lord of the rings, the rise of the witch-king and launch the setup.exe. the game can now be launched. a few links will be added to the main menu (like the lord of the rings, the rise of the witch-king and files), a small button will be added to the settings menu, and a message will be added to the messages menu.
the background music for the game is actually a track composed by howard shore. the song was released on the album rings of power and tells the story of frodo and his friends as they leave rivendell in the game, on their way to mordor. it is a highly evocative piece, built around a theme of slow-paced melancholy as the hobbits and their companions - sam, merry, and pippin - leave rivendell behind, its grandeur slowly replaced by that of the natural world of the shire. the song also serves as a very literal accompaniment to the game. the music is clearly meant to set the mood of the game, and is largely absent during combat. the exception is the rune song, which accompanies the attacks of the nazgul. however, it is not simply the presence of the music which sets the mood, but also its absence. during the first battle, the player is transported to a peaceful world of forest glades and green hills, a world which contrasts starkly with the barren landscape of mordor. the mood of the game is set, not only through music, but through the subtle changes in the landscape. even the artwork reflects this shift in mood. originally, the hobbits would have walked across a simple grassy plain to the northeast of rivendell. later, they would have moved into the wooded hills of the boromir and isengard passes, and eventually, they would have reached the area where the first battle occurs, a barren plain in the middle of the realm of mordor. as the player fights on, they reach the gates of mordor, which have been breached, and pass through the area of sauron and his nazgul which lies on the other side of the gates. but even this area is no longer the place where the nazgul roam. the land has been turned to ash by the destruction of the dark lord sauron and his minions, and is now populated by the filthy beasts the nazgul used to feed on. this also reveals the overall timeline of the game, with sauron being defeated during the events of the two towers, and the nazgul being defeated by the forces of good just as the players are about to enter the scene. 6a6f617c0c
