<p>I agree. Basing it on Ubuntu (a small [headless] variant without GUI and Office tools, if possible so that the containers do not use up 10s of GBs of disk space each given that they all have to live in the same VM) may be nicer of the two options that you list in that this way the container would look closer to someone's Linux laptop / VM / Ubuntu-Linux-GNU subsystem.</p>
