<p>Autoconf uses a set of educated guesses to identify host os and cpu. These guesses are periodically updated in the GNU source code repo and are not part of autoconf as installed on the system.</p>
<p>It is advisable to update these guesses every once in a while to cope with new OS (og M1 macOS) and CPUs (eg the ARM cpus in raspberries).</p>
