Comment:

 What would the resulting directory structure look like? Do you want
 separate directories for each branch, or rather just be able to cd to
 arrangement1/thorn2 and `git checkout experimental` without having to
 fetch the branch yourself? The latter would likely be easier to implement,
 as well as more in tune with standard git practices as I understand them.
