 I agree with Frank: If we are serious about switching to Python, then we
 should move the Python version to the trunk, and choose a sensible name
 for the Perl branch. If we announce things properly, help people with the
 switch etc. This should work out.

 I don't think we need to wait a month. People will ignore such advanced
 notice and will be surprised anyway -- a few days should suffice.
