 I agree. Please open a ticket for the native implementation and propose a
 patch.

 As for the NewRad thorn: it might well be that it is not observable. Does
 the test use multiple MPI processes (it would only show then, if at all)?

 Concerning two versions: how do these differ? Does it make sense to have
 two?
