#1020: Reduce WeylScal4 code size
-----------------------------------+----------------------------------------
Reporter: eschnett | Owner:
Type: enhancement | Status: new
Priority: major | Milestone:
Component: EinsteinToolkit thorn | Version:
Keywords: |
-----------------------------------+----------------------------------------
The attached patch reduces the size of the auto-generated code of
WeylScal4 by introducing some strategic temporary variables.
This prevents a build failure on BlueGene/Q.

#1175: Improving the treatment of external libraries
-------------------------+--------------------------------------------------
Reporter: hinder | Owner:
Type: enhancement | Status: new
Priority: major | Milestone:
Component: Cactus | Version:
Keywords: |
-------------------------+--------------------------------------------------
There are two tickets (#1006 and #1170) which address shortcomings in the
current handling of external libraries in Cactus. I think that the
handling of external libraries needs a bit of a redesign, and have created
a wiki page (https://docs.einsteintoolkit.org/et-
docs/Improving_the_treatment_of_external_libraries) containing a summary
of my view of the current situation, and a draft proposal for what to do
about it. Perhaps there are other approaches, maybe radically different!
Or maybe the current system is the best we can have, for practical
reasons. In any case, I think we should have a discussion about this.
Please take a look and add notes or comments either in the text of the
page or as comments to this ticket.

#434: Keep track of masked-out volume in CarpetMask

Keep track of the volume that is masked out by CarpetMask, and take this
volume into account when checking in CarpetReduce that the integral over
the simulation domain equals the domain volume.

#1169: add LAPACK_LIB_DIRS and LAPACK_INC_DIRS option to LAPACK
-----------------------------------+----------------------------------------
Reporter: rhaas | Owner:
Type: enhancement | Status: new
Priority: minor | Milestone:
Component: EinsteinToolkit thorn | Version:
Keywords: LAPACK |
-----------------------------------+----------------------------------------
the attached patch adds options similar to MPI's options of the same name
to LAPACK. They are useful when using the C interface and requiring access
to the include file since the LAPACK included in mkl (like MPI) has "non-
standard" directory layout. Also historically LAPACK_DIR specifies
/usr/lib whereas eg. HDF5_DIR or GSL_DIR specify /usr . The patch does not
change this later behaviour.

#1119: hdf5toascii_slicer should output variable names in headers
-------------------------+--------------------------------------------------
Reporter: rhaas | Owner: eschnett
Type: enhancement | Status: new
Priority: minor | Milestone:
Component: Carpet | Version:
Keywords: |
-------------------------+--------------------------------------------------
CarpetIOASCII currently puts something like
{{{
# data columns: 13:rho
}}}
into its headers. hdf5toascii_slicer does not. It would be useful if the
relavant code was copied into the slicer (from outputslice.cc).
Particularly useful if one translates a checkpoint file to ASCII to
inspect values in detail.

#1168: simfactory rev 1677 fail to start on lonestar

Reporter: rhaas | Owner: eschnett

It seems as if
{{{

fails with the warning
{{{

after which simfactory fails to continue. My suspicion is that cuda is not
available for OpenMPI (which is the selected MPI stack) and the module
then returns and error and simfactory aborts if the env command does not
succeed.
The output I get is:
{{{

Removing this command from envsetup lets me run. However since I do not
run CUDA (the commit claims OpenCL which also seems wrong), does someone
who uses OpenCL/CUDA on lonestar want to suggest an alternative?

Erik has applied the patch to the main branch but it needs to be back
ported to the release branch.
