#2662: Try to get email from ~/.gitconfig
Reporter: Steven R. Brandt
Status: new
Milestone:
Version:
Type: enhancement
Priority: trivial
Component: SimFactory
Comment (by Roland Haas):
I requested changes. Basically, modern git actually defaults to `$XDG_CONFIG_HOME/git/config` for its config file and only falls back to `~/.gitconfig` if the needed. Best is to query git about its options using `git config --global user.email` \(taking care of failures etc if `git` is not in `$PATH` or otherwise not executable of course\).

#2661: failure to regenerate Baikal and BaikalVacuum parfiles from README instruction
Reporter:
Status: new
Milestone:
Version:
Type: bug
Priority: major
Component: EinsteinToolkit thorn
Comment (by Roland Haas):
Well. The parfiles are generated, or at least there are directories Baikal\_parfiles and BaikalVacuum\_parfiles which contains files of the same name bug different content than the files in he ET.
Those are the ones I am concerned about.

Comment (by Zach Etienne):
Indeed, running the Jupyter notebook that generates Baikal and BaikalVacuum will only create the core C codes. We don’t output other files because they are managed separately.
In the future we’d like to have everything “generated” when the Baikal\* notebook is run. Please keep this ticket open until that day.

Following the instructions in the README file I am unable to reproduce the example parfiles provided for BaikalVaccum. Instead I get different files.
Please provide instruction that let the files be reproduced.

BNS gallery example \(bns-20221027\) is updated on the website.
Notes on running BNS gallery example \(10-27\):
- Gnuplot issue with epstopdf and convert: need to update gnuplot and allow read/write access with ImageMagick.
- Add python script to plot Psi4 using quibit instead \(plot\_quibit.py in script.tar.gz\).
- Compiling issue with LORENE: might not have the latest version of cmake, resolved by running on Expanse and Frontera.

#2660: create autoconf test that checks for too old g++ STL in combination with icpc
Reporter: Roland Haas
Status: new
Milestone:
Version:
Type: task
Priority: minor
Component:
Compilation of the ET on clusters regularly fails if icpc is combined with a too old STL from g\+\+. As of [https://www.einsteintoolkit.org/about/releases/ET\_2022\_05\_announcement.h… the ET must be compiled with STL from gcc-6 \(or later\) when using icpc to provide for full C\+\+11 support \(and not technical preview C\+\+11\).
Similarly before, using gcc-4.3 \(default on some redhat systems\) will fail to compile vectors due to bad default constructors.
We should construct an autoconf test that tests for these issues and reports a useful error message to users setting up Cactus / the ET on their cluster. Note that technically Cactus would work with older C\+\+ compilers but the Einstein Toolkit will not.
