#294: Idea for interactive commands running a command

On some systems, one can use ssh to access compute nodes if one has a job
running there (e.g. on Longhorn at TACC). In this case, Simfactory can
submit a regular job executing a sleep command, can poll (every minute)
whether the job is running, and if so, log in to the corresponding compute
node.
As suggested above, this mechanism is even necessary on some systems
(Longhorn), where no other interactive access to compute nodes is
possible.

I think the "iomachine" MDB entry is not used when syncing to a machine.

#286: Writing/reading grid structure should be explicit operations

Carpet should offer explicit routines to write and read all grid structure
metadata. One method could be to serialise this information to a string
that can then either be written to HDF5 (as is done now), or could be
interpreted by post-processing scripts.
This would clean up checkpointing, and would also allow reading/writing
arbitrary grid functions at a later time.

list-simulations does not distinguish between active and inactive
simulations. Only active simulations have a current restart.
Also, a simulation can never be "HELD", since this indicates a
presubmitted restart (and is not a simulation state).
If a simulation has no valid restarts, then it is simply inactive, and a
restart was never submitted. The message "skipping" sounds as if there was
a problem, but there is none.

#269: new python simfactory revision does not create a new simulation directory

With a revision of mid of December it was possible to create a new
simulation directory automatically using
simfactory/sim submit
In the newest revision 1191 (4.2.2011) this is not possible any longer. It
is required now to use simfactory/sim create-submit

I tried 'sim login philip' from outside my sourcebasedir. I expected to be
logged into philip. However, simfactory insisted that I should be inside a
subdir of sourcebasedir. I don't think this is actually needed for the
'login' process, is it?
