#1220: OPTIONAL_IFACTIVE

Following up on a discussion on the Cactus developers mailing list, I want
to suggest a third way of indicating a desired capability. In addition to
REQUIRES and OPTIONAL, I suggest OPTIONAL_IFACTIVE. This behaves like
OPTIONAL, except that the capability relationship only exists if the thorn
providing the capability is active.
For example, thorn GRHydro would state "OPTIONAL_IFACTIVE Carpet". This
mean that, if Carpet is built into the configuration (i.e. is in the thorn
list), _and_ if Carpet is active, then GRHydro will depend on it, e.g. by
calling functions in Carpet. If Carpet is not in the thorn lists, these
calls will be #ifdef'd out, and if Carpet is not active, these calls will
not occur.
This will make it possible to automatically activate all thorns that
provide a required capability. In fact, the attached patch already
implements this.

#1226: backport of include fix for FMA4 to Ørsted

The following small patch was part of LSUThorns/Vectors revision 77 and
would allow Ørsted-users to build Vectors on, e.g., bluewaters.
Currently the old code produces a compile-error stating that one should do
what this patch resolves: using another include file.

#1230: Make Cactus test suite mechanism independent of Carpet's domain
decomposition
-------------------------+--------------------------------------------------
Reporter: eschnett | Owner:
Type: enhancement | Status: new
Priority: major | Milestone:
Component: Cactus | Version:
Keywords: |

I recently used this line to look for differences:
diff -u <(grep '^[^#]'
arrangements/EinsteinEvolve/GRHydro/test/balsara1_2d/grhydro\:\:bcons.y.asc
| sort -u) <(grep '^[^#]'
TEST/sim/GRHydro/balsara1_2d/grhydro\:\:bcons.y.asc | sort -u)
This removes all comments and empty lines, then sorts the output and
removes duplicate lines (from different processes). The result is rather
easy to interpret.
If one also deleted column 5 (?) containing the component number, then
this would make the self-test independent of Carpet's process
decomposition.

#1217: automatically enable use of evolution mask in GRHydro when
CarpetEvolutionMask is active
-----------------------------------+----------------------------------------
Reporter: rhaas | Owner:

Priority: minor | Milestone:

I attach a patch to provide an "auto" option to use_evolution_mask that
will enable the mask if thorn CarpetEvolutionMask is active. As already
stated, I don't really prefer this option since it seems like too much
cleverness in code which is bound to eventually bite us. I will only apply
this last patch if requested. The others will be applied on Sunday (I have
no idea how to nicely implement the comments for 0012 since Fortran does
not allow per-file local function definitions).

#1224: new image in trac wiki lets browsers again report the trac page as insecure

Since the addition of the image
http://build.barrywardell.net:8080/job/EinsteinToolkit/badge/icon to the
trac wiki the page reports as being insecure (at least in parts) since not
all content is using ssl. It would be nice to be able to get to that image
using https or otherwise work around this issue.

#1223: Formaline always triggeres new link

Without any changes 'make sim' should check for changes, find nothing and
do nothing as result. This happens without Formaline compiled in. With
Formaline in the thornlist, even without any changes, 'make sim' triggers
a new link. With a lot of thorns this can take a long time, especially on
some of the clusters - and should be avoided.

#1219: Make CCTK_REAL16 more flexible

The attached patch makes CCTK_REAL16 more flexible. Instead of assuming
that it is real*16 in Fortran, Cactus allows any real*N for user-specified
values of N. This enables using CCTK_REAL16 e.g. with gcc versions that
call it real*10.

We need a mechanism to make GRHydro_Macros.h usable by other thorns and
especially other languages. If used as is currently I cannot write an
extra thorn setting things to atmosphere conforming to these new
parameters - especially not in C, unless I essentially re-implement the
logic - which would be bad code-duplication. This was no issue so far
because the logic was so simple. With this patch this would no longer be
true.
