Yes, for svn you can either lookup the UUID yourself, or you can try to avoid the internals and try a 'svn switch --relocate' and test for the exit value. This effectively also compared the UUIDs, but it does it for you and you are separated from any possible future change in the internals. Practically both give you pretty much the same, except maybe that even if you compare the UUIDs you would still need to do the relocation and check for its exit value to actually do the switch.
