#1464: Dissipation test cases get stuck on Bethe ----------------------+----------------------------------------------------- Reporter: eschnett | Owner: Type: defect | Status: new Priority: major | Milestone: ET_2013_11 Component: Other | Version: development version Keywords: | ----------------------+----------------------------------------------------- I was running the Dissipation test cases on Bethe, and found that they got stuck on Bethe. That is, they kept running for many hours, and I had to kill them manually. This is for test_ah.par and test_ob.par, when running on 1 process. The last output I see is: {{{ INFO (IDAxiBrillBH): Calling axisymmetric solver cyc= 2 max(res)=0.00E+00 tolerance condition tol=1.00E-08 satisfied INFO (IDAxiBrillBH): Solve complete rmax = 2.211409083630045E-009 axibheps = 1.000000000000000E-008 psi2d = 1.00000000000000 -0.130757983129253 Resulting eps = 1.243881126811175E-005 INFO (IDAxiBrillBH): interpolating solution to xyz grid points INFO (IDAxiBrillBH): converting to physical metric INFO (IDAxiBrillBH): computing ADM mass ADM mass: 1.92127863511242 }}} When running on 2 processes, the test case QuasiLocalMeasures/qlm-bl.par got stuck in a similar manner. The last output is {{{ INFO (QuasiLocalMeasures): Initialising Quasi-Local Measure calculations }}} -- Ticket URL: <https://trac.einsteintoolkit.org/ticket/1464> Einstein Toolkit <http://einsteintoolkit.org> The Einstein Toolkit

[Einstein Toolkit] #1475: Cactus scripting language integration
by Einstein Toolkit 08 Nov '13

08 Nov '13

#1475: Cactus scripting language integration -------------------------+-------------------------------------------------- Reporter: knarf | Owner: Type: enhancement | Status: new Priority: optional | Milestone: Component: Cactus | Version: development version Keywords: | -------------------------+-------------------------------------------------- I wanted to add the capability to call lua from within Cactus, and in particular from schedule.ccl The attached patch does this, but tries to do this as generic as possible, for future implementations of other scripting languages as well. It should be seen as 'in development'. I am asking for comments. We could develop this separate on a branch, or, of it is agreed that this is "safe enough to not interfere in case a thorn actually using it", we could apply this to trunk after the release. Use the latest version of ExternalLibraries/lua to test this, but note that there are some hard-coded paths still in there (in the lua thorn), which would have to be generalized first. -- Ticket URL: <https://trac.einsteintoolkit.org/ticket/1475> Einstein Toolkit <http://einsteintoolkit.org> The Einstein Toolkit

[Einstein Toolkit] #1470: make Util_GetHandle case insensitive
by Einstein Toolkit 05 Nov '13

05 Nov '13

#1470: make Util_GetHandle case insensitive ----------------------+----------------------------------------------------- Reporter: rhaas | Owner: Type: defect | Status: new Priority: optional | Milestone: Component: Cactus | Version: development version Keywords: | ----------------------+----------------------------------------------------- Util_GetHandle is the flesh routine behind such routines CCTK_ReductionHandle, CCTK_InterpHandle that return some kind of operation handle based on a name. Most other strings in Cactus are case insensitive eg the thorn or variable names in CCTK_VarDataPtr, the boundary condition names. Since the interpolator name that is passed to CCTK_InterpHandle us often a user specifiable parameter it might be good to also use case insensitive string comparison in Util_GetHandle. Aside: Util_GetHandle is not documented but also not declared as private. -- Ticket URL: <https://trac.einsteintoolkit.org/ticket/1470> Einstein Toolkit <http://einsteintoolkit.org> The Einstein Toolkit

[Einstein Toolkit] #1467: CarpetIOHDF5 complains about invalid H5Pclose

#1467: CarpetIOHDF5 complains about invalid H5Pclose -------------------------------+-------------------------------------------- Reporter: anton@… | Owner: eschnett Type: defect | Status: new Priority: minor | Milestone: Component: Carpet | Version: development version Keywords: | -------------------------------+-------------------------------------------- I've recently updated to a newer Carpet and now I'm seeing lots of HDF5 spam about invalid H5Pclose. I've traced the problem to commit 05587a51734724536c183c9929967ecf3c2c0072 (ticket 1146). It seems to me that HDF5_ERROR (H5Pclose (plist)); added in WriteVarUnchunked in Output.cc is incorrect, since plist also gets closed right before the function returns. Attached patches fix the problem for me. -- Ticket URL: <https://trac.einsteintoolkit.org/ticket/1467> Einstein Toolkit <http://einsteintoolkit.org> The Einstein Toolkit

[Einstein Toolkit] #1009: MPI is not automatically detected on Mac OS
by Einstein Toolkit 05 Nov '13

#1009: MPI is not automatically detected on Mac OS -----------------------------------+---------------------------------------- Reporter: hinder | Owner: Type: defect | Status: new Priority: minor | Milestone: Component: EinsteinToolkit thorn | Version: Keywords: | -----------------------------------+---------------------------------------- There is logic in ExternalLibraries/MPI/configure.sh to automatically detect the location of MPI. This code looks for $X/lib/libmpi.a and $X/include/mpi.h for various values of X. This is not a robust way to locate MPI because libmpi.a is not the correct filename on Mac OS. We could make a special case for Mac OS and use ".dylib" instead of ".a", or we could remove the library file from the test, and rely on the header file alone. I prefer the latter. -- Ticket URL: <https://trac.einsteintoolkit.org/ticket/1009> Einstein Toolkit <http://einsteintoolkit.org> The Einstein Toolkit

[Einstein Toolkit] #1446: use hwloc to choose ideal number of threads
by Einstein Toolkit 30 Oct '13

30 Oct '13

#1446: use hwloc to choose ideal number of threads -------------------------+-------------------------------------------------- Reporter: rhaas | Owner: eschnett Type: enhancement | Status: new Priority: minor | Milestone: Component: Carpet | Version: development version Keywords: | -------------------------+-------------------------------------------------- Currently if OMP_NUM_THREADS is not set Cactus ends up using the "default" number of threads, which usually is as many as there are cores. This is however not always ideal, eg if one uses 2 MPI processes per machine or when using SMT or when running on a magny cours CPU which has 1/2 of a FPU unit per SMT unit. Instead it might be useful to have the driver consult with hwloc to choose a more ideal number of threads. -- Ticket URL: <https://trac.einsteintoolkit.org/ticket/1446> Einstein Toolkit <http://einsteintoolkit.org> The Einstein Toolkit
