New time for Cactus support chat
by Frank Loeffler 23 Oct '11

23 Oct '11

Hi, The Cactus developers provide a weekly support chat, at the moment Wednesdays at 9am CDT. It turns out that this is not convenient for a couple of developers this semester and we should find a new time for the weekly chat. Please express your opinion in the following doodle poll, keeping in mind that this is intended to mean 'every week', not just the particular days mentioned in the poll. http://www.doodle.com/vynu85953mwgz9ni This week's chat will still happen at the usual time. The poll will be closed end of this week. Frank Loeffler

Re: [Users] [Commits] [svn:einsteintoolkit] Proposal_WS_Spring2012/ (Rev. 3)
by Joshua Faber 22 Oct '11

Hi Frank, looking at the budget, I find $11,590 as the total, not $18k. Is some category missing that I'm forgetting? Did Beverly give us an estimate for what would be reasonable? question about MHD tests for GRHydro
by Bruno Giacomazzo 19 Oct '11

19 Oct '11

Hi, I have some questions about the MHD version of GRHydro. Today I had a business meeting at the time of the telecon, otherwise I'd have asked them during the telecon. It is my understanding that the next release of the ET will happen next week and it will contain MHD. Did you do already some tests in GR? Did you try the evolution of BNS with magnetic fields? I'd like to try to run the code with magnetized BNS and see how it compares with Whisky. As some of you know in the past I had problems with divergence cleaning (DC) when evolving BNS (strong violations of divB after the merger when the BH and the torus are formed when using AMR) and so I'm curious to see if the implementation of DC in GRHydro is more robust than the one I have in Whisky. Thanks, Bruno P.S.: I will try to join the next ET telecon, so that I can get an update before coming to LSU. Re: [Users] [Einstein Toolkit] #618: damiana setup in simfactory is wrong

In general it would be nice if one could simply use only some features of simfactory and not necessarily all together. For example I don't want to use the automatic rsync of the source and that's why my Cactus directory is on damiana in a different place (actually the standard place, simply in my home) with respect to the one guessed by simfactory. new CarpetIOASCII/src/util/Carpet2ygraph.pl
by Bruno Giacomazzo 09 Oct '11

09 Oct '11

Hi, I was trying to use the script CarpetIOASCII/src/util/Carpet2ygraph.pl (it is the same both in the git and hg versions of Carpet), but it was not working. I modified it in order to be able again to produce different output for the different refinement levels and now it can also work with more than 9 refinement levels. I have attached my version and the diff with the version in the repository. The only problem is that it still doesn't know how to remove ghost points, so the output files may contain duplicated points. Im my parfile I'm using CarpetIOASCII::out3D_ghosts = "no" and consequently I don't have any problem. But if you have ghostpoints in your .asc files, you may see duplicated points in the output produced by the script. Any suggestion is appreciated. New location for python-simfactory
by Frank Loeffler 04 Oct '11

04 Oct '11

Hi, The location for the python version of simfactory has changed. It used to live as branch PYSIM_2010 within the repository https://svn.cct.lsu.edu/repos/numrel/simfactory/ It now has its own repository https://svn.cct.lsu.edu/repos/numrel/simfactory2/ History is preserved in the sense that this is a copy of the simfactory repository, which the perl version removed and the python branch made the trunk. You cannot "switch --relocate" to this repository. Permissions should be set like for the old repository. Please let me know if you have problems. Only if you are interested in technical details: I tried to use svndumpfilter to get a 'nicer' history, avoiding the repo copy and 'svn mv' of the branches/trunk, by rewriting the paths within the dump. However, because of a combination of 'svn mv/cp' in the past and limitations of every svndumpfilter script available (I found five), this isn't possible without major pain and a lot of work, if at all. Frank
