by Ghadiri, Noora Rain 10 Sep '26

Dear all, I had sent this email to a wrong address before, apologies for the delay. Please take a moment to fill out your availability for 2026 Fall semester so we can decide on a time and day that works best for most meeting attendees. https://crab.fit/fall-26-etk-standing-meeting-235853 Best, Noora Ghadiri

Community question — reproducible q≈9 GW190814-like workflow for Einstein Toolkit
by Nadelynq 27 Aug '26

27 Aug '26

Hello Einstein Toolkit users, I’m Nadelyn Zoe King, an independent citizen scientist building a reproducible Einstein Toolkit/CarpetX workflow for a GW190814-like q≈9 compact-binary benchmark. The package is intended to manage preflight, parameter rendering, an eccentricity-reduction pilot, three-resolution runs, Multipole/Psi4 collection, convergence and fixed-frequency-integration post-processing, and comparison against public GWOSC strain. I am not claiming completed COSMA8 results; the current goal is a transparent, independently reviewable workflow. I would appreciate community guidance on whether the workflow is appropriately scoped for Einstein Toolkit, what machine and configuration assumptions should be documented, and whether a well-tested post-processing or validation helper would be useful as a public contribution. If appropriate, I can share the source repository, build/test logs, parameter templates, and a short reproducibility note. Thank you for maintaining an open community around relativistic astrophysics software. I will also review the weekly-call and contribution guidance. Best regards, Nadelyn Zoe King

Meeting minutes for 08/27/2026

Present: Lucas, Peter, Deborah, Jordan, Steve, Max, Zach Minutes: Lucas # Status of Issues on Github - Roland downloaded a new updated version of the Issues, Zach will work based on that. - He plans to start a new transfer today. The bot idea for creating the issues remains. - He improved the header of the port. Bitbucket nuked the old tickets page, so we obv. can't link back to it. - Steve and Zach think that Monday next week we should see a functioning issue tracker. - Deborah makes a point that our webpage still points to the old Bitbucket issues page. # Accumulated updates after release - CarpetX and AMReX updates: No Roland today. - McLachlan: Peter is ready to run another test, but ran out of allocation in a machine he wanted to run. He's sorting it out with Steve (It's an LSU machine) - Zach gave an update on the Baikal family. He reports that, after doing a lot of BBH simulations, he learned that the way he did constraint enforcement in Baikal was not optimal. He comments that enforcing the algebraic constraints exponentially was bad. Doing the "standard" algebraic enforcement improved stability. As a follow up, Lucas asked if this historical wisdom of what to do on BSSN came from paper or experimentation. Zach mentions that things were done mostly empirically, with strong mathematical hints of the proper directions to take. - Deborah, in another follow up, notes that in changing from BSSNKai to McLachlan, she noticed that the MAYA waves code changes the shift condition depending on the mass ratios involved. She asks if we have compatible options in McLachlan. Peter says we have radially varying eta, but no tracking the the small and large BHs when q >> 1 to adjust it accordingly. # Unanswered questions - Please fill out the poll for new time - "Issues configuring SimFactory for PBS cluster (Hubble) - Jobs (MAKINO Taiki)": We've been backing and forthing with Maiko, assisting him in understanding simfactory behaviour and getting configuration files for his machine. Steve and Bayhan are the candidates to answer that and they are doing so.

Chair: Peter Minute Taker: Deborah Attendees: Beyhan, Deborah, Steve, Roland, Peter, Lucas, Noora, Johnny - Accumulated updates after the release - no significant updates - Atlassian retiring Bitbucket Cloud Issues - no news from Zach - Roland has taken a final backup of the issues as of today - it should be shut down today - Mailing list questions - configuring for Hubble PBS cluster - Beyhan working on it - Noora and Lucas have been working on adding the wiki page for using CarpetX - Added new bullet point under documentation for “choosing a driver” - The idea being to help people use CarpetX for simulations even though not all of it is in the release yet - This also involved Steve having to fix the wiki - Issues - 2970 - Roland working on silo compatibility issues with hdf5 - 2729 - Plan is to just remove it - replace it with something homegrown - 2909 - removing TAGS from interface.ccl - ticket from Steve that Roland will review - 2961 - Steve will work on it - 2958 - Steve will check that this was applied to both the release branch and master branch - then it can be closed - 1077 - related to 2961 - 2965 - GetComponents option to obtain new branch - a feature request to be considered - 2964 - Test Derivs fails on stampede3 - Claude had a proposed fix - It claims the arithmetic and vectorization is wrong and reaching out of bounds - We’re not sure we fully believe Claude - Steve will go back to try to understand the failure more thoroughly - 2962 - Split the ET - bringing back the idea to split the ETK into two versions, one for Carpet and one for CarpetX - Steve will put together two thornlists so we can more solidly consider it - 1520 - Piraha doesn’t adhere to flesh coding style - Steve will work on it - 1523 - Use Piraha to parse all ccl files - still an issue with following the coding style guide - 1881 - an issue with descriptive error messages for parameter files - Particularly about including line numbers in the error - Steve will look back into it - AOB - Noora has been uploading the videos for the ETK workshop - Roland mentioned she can make it unlisted so she can send the link to people so they can look to see if it looks good - Done with uploading the first day - Noora will send around a poll for the ETK meeting time ----------------------------------------- Deborah Ferguson Assistant Professor The University of Rhode Island
