Compiling on Hawk Cluster
by Francesco Maria Fabbri 29 Apr '21

29 Apr '21

Hi, I'm compiling ET on HAWK-HPC in Stuttgart for the first time and having some difficulties using SGIMPT for mpi. Has anyone ever compiled on this cluster? Is there a default optionlist? Thanks in advance, Francesco M. F. "I'm not crazy. My reality is just different from yours." (cit. Cheshire Cat)

No major red flags in clusters. We encourage people to report if there’s any problem with the ET developer’s version so it can be fixed before the release date. * proposal to enable presync in gallery parfiles [RH] All gallery testers should add presync mode = mix error, this should be safe for the gallery tests. Roland will add to the gallery tickets the needed parameters. * proposal to update gauge settings in TOV<https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues/2175/test-single-stabl…> example to be more typical [RH] Gauge settings are currently taken from the paper, it would be better to change it to the BNS one. Peter will work on this. * proposal to add release team mugshots to ET website credits page<http://einsteintoolkit.org/maintainers-credits.html> People agreed to change the website in every release with the mugshots of the release team. * Release testsuite status<http://einsteintoolkit.org/testsuite_results/index.php> * POWER status<https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues/2413/include-power-cod…>: Maria will test POWER’s updated version. * Python3 support in simfactory<https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues/2335/switch-simfactory…> : Python 3 is working so far no problem. * gallery examples: BBH<https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues/2172/test-binary-black…> [SB]. Failed to calculate the magnitude of the horizon spin in precessing BBH system
by 刘屿 23 Apr '21

23 Apr '21

Dear Cactus users, I am trying to simulate a precessing BBH system. When I analysed the mass of the black hole (qlm_mass), I found that the spin evolution (qlm_spin) is abnormal. [image: qlm_spin.png] The coordinate-base spin vector gives a value closer to what I set. [image: qlm_coordspin_norm.png] This is the initial parameters. ADMMass = 0.9898872694943947 Mass Ratio = 1.0 separation = 10.4 spin1 = [-0.125 0. 0. ] spin2 = [0.125 0. 0. ] chi1 = [-0.5 0. 0. ] chi2 = [0.5 0. 0. ] I tried different methods for finding the killing vector field (i.e. QuasiLocalMeasures::killing_vector_method), but it didn't work. If the small black hole does not spin (spin2 = [0, 0, 0]), things will get better. The following is the difference between my parfile and GW150914.rpar $ diff GW150914.rpar BBH000.rpar 32,33c32,33 < D = 10.0 # Separation < q = 36.0/29.0 # Mass ratio: q = mp/mm >= 1 --- > D = 10.4 # Separation > q = 1 # Mass ratio: q = mp/mm >= 1 35,38c35,38 < chip = [0, 0, 0.31] # Dimensionsless spin of + BH (x0 > 0, more massive) < chim = [0, 0, -0.46] # Dimensionsless spin of - BH (x0 < 0, less massive) < Pr = -0.00084541526517121; # Radial linear momentum < Pphi = 0.09530152296974252; # Azimuthal linear momentum --- > chip = [-0.5, 0, 0] # Dimensionsless spin of + BH (x0 > 0, more massive) > chim = [0.5, 0, 0] # Dimensionsless spin of - BH (x0 < 0, less massive) > Pr = -0.000878483532190008 > Pphi = 0.0927554222753844 261,265c261,265 < CoordinatesSymmetry::reflection_z = yes < CoordinatesSymmetry::stagger = no < Coordinates::symmetry = "+z bitant" < Coordinates::additional_symmetry_size = 1 < Coordinates::verbose = no --- > ##CoordinatesSymmetry::reflection_z = yes > ##CoordinatesSymmetry::stagger = no > ##Coordinates::symmetry = "+z bitant" > ##Coordinates::additional_symmetry_size = 1 > ##Coordinates::verbose = no 552,553c552,553 < SphericalSurface::maxntheta = 66 < SphericalSurface::maxnphi = 124 --- > SphericalSurface::maxntheta = 161 > SphericalSurface::maxnphi = 320 559,560c559,560 < SphericalSurface::ntheta [2] = 41 < SphericalSurface::nphi [2] = 80 --- > SphericalSurface::ntheta [2] = 161 > SphericalSurface::nphi [2] = 320 565,566c565,566 < SphericalSurface::ntheta [3] = 41 < SphericalSurface::nphi [3] = 80 --- > SphericalSurface::ntheta [3] = 161 > SphericalSurface::nphi [3] = 320 571,572c571,572 < SphericalSurface::ntheta [4] = 41 < SphericalSurface::nphi [4] = 80 --- > SphericalSurface::ntheta [4] = 161 > SphericalSurface::nphi [4] = 320 633,634c633,638 < IOScalar::outScalar_reductions = "minimum maximum average" < IOScalar::outScalar_vars = "SystemStatistics::process_memory_mb" --- > IOScalar::outScalar_reductions = "minimum maximum average norm1 norm2" > IOScalar::outScalar_vars = " > SystemStatistics::process_memory_mb > ML_ADMConstraints::ML_Ham > ML_ADMConstraints::ML_mom > " 670c674 < IOHDF5::out2D_every = $out2d_every --- > IOHDF5::out2D_every = 0 Thank You Best Regards --------------------------- Yu Liu PhD Student Department of Astronomy Huazhong University of Science and Technology

number of thesis using the Einstein Toolkit codes
by Roland Haas 22 Apr '21

22 Apr '21

Hello all, for a report to the NSF I am trying to obtain an idea of who many student thesis were using (were enabled by) the Einstein Toolkit. So if you are a student or are working with a student and have used the Einstein Toolkit as part of your thesis work in between 2020-07-01 and 2021-06-30 it would be great if you could let me know. You do not have to have defended in this period, just having used the toolkit. Yours, Roland -- My email is as private as my paper mail. I therefore support encrypting and signing email messages. Meeting minutes for 2021-04-22
by Atul Kedia 22 Apr '21

22 Apr '21

Present: Roland H, Bill G, Peter D, Erik S, Miguel G, Bruno G, Antonios T, Zach E, Maria H, Karim S, Leonardo W, Beyhan K, Ken S, Atul K Chair: Bill G, Minutes: Atul K * SPEC benchmark contribution [https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues/2470 task] [RH, SB] No updates ** Binary neutron star lectures / tutorials at summer school (ID theory , ID generation, ID usage) [RH] ID Theory: Antonios: Discussing the math behind the ID. Theoretical point of view, 2x45 adequate to cover BNS ID. Provided 3+1 decomposition. Antonios taught it before. ID generation, ID usage Maria, Bruno and Atul : Atul: Should there be a tutorial on download and setup for LORENE? If yes, should we bother with LORENE2 on ET? Bruno: Lorene takes too much time to download. Bill: Do we know the machines available for the meeting? Roland: Yes, 40cores ... ?? : Compile time depends on the EOS Bruno: Should do atleast Single ToV maybe Roland : Should atleast show the BNS par file Erik : A coarse setup might speed things up Bruno : All easiest done with Lorene1 (i.e. LORENE from website) Roland : LORENE2 compiles code for BNS Maria: Don't know LORENE2. Will provide a library of hybrid data. Maybe make a Jupyter notebook. Has run all of hybrid data by Josh and more. Best of both, freely available and as easily usable. Probably on a Jupyter notebook. Bruno: Should do Piecewise Polytropic EoS Give tables to the students to try later. Two different formats : CompOSE[https://compose.obspm.fr/home] and Internal Lorene format. Eos_tables cant be read by GRHydro. Erik: Precompiled data. Maria: Read and visualize ID maybe? Bill: VisIt and all take more time ??: Do we have visualization talks? Roland: Very little space-time left in this ET meeting. Roland: How much time ultimately needed for LORENE? Bruno: 2x45 should be fine: 1x for generating + 1x for running. Maria : 45 mins for ID development + 25-30 mins for running ? Erik : maybe make some 1 hr slots and some 1/2 hr slots. * ET 2021 NA summer school date selection email [http://lists.einsteintoolkit.org/pipermail/users/2021-April/007920.html] [RH] Roland : Dates options for meeting are July 26-30 or August 16-20. Most likely going to be July 26-30. * Release planning [ZE] Zach: Tickets added to POWER submitted by Gabriele. @RH can these be added before freeze? Roland: MH has more suggestions.. Two punctures.. Some of the bug fixes would most likely get fixed. Zach: Can the most essential bug fixes be done in time? Roland: Likely. May 14th as feature freeze. ** release testsuite status [http://einsteintoolkit.org/testsuite_results/index.php] Zach: Compiling everywhere. Some testsuite failures related to Con2Prim . How many failures is too many? Erik People want to know if the failed test is somewhat explainable. Maria: Erik’s script for BBH runs well. Bill: Is the QBC test somewhat concerning? Roland: Grey ones (QBC) have not been tested for some time. ** proposal to enable presync in gallery parfiles [RH] ** Gallery examples: Zach: Start early. Prepare systems ahead of time. Update the ticket after feature freeze. Bill : Update the graphics and “last tested” dates. *** BBH [SB] [https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues/2172/ ] *** Poisson equation [MG] [https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues/2173/ ] *** TOV [PD] [https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues/2175/ ] *** BNS [AK] [https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues/2176/ ] *** Multipatch [BG] [https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues/2174/ ] ** bugs of severity major or worse [https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolk it/tickets/issues?kind=bug&priority=major&priority=blocker&priority=cri tical&status=new&status=open] Roland : Major means needs to be fixed before the next release. Critical doesn’t compile. Blocker means can't do science. Zach: Very old “Major” tickets might not be as critical. Roland: Milestone implies the bug needs to be fixed before that date. Major tickets without milestones may end up not getting fixed due to not being prioritized. More discussion about classification of tickets Critical, Blocker, Major, Minor, Trivial. ** all open tickets [https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issu es?milestone=ET_2021_05&status=open&status=new] flagged for the next release * ET Jenkins replacement demo [https://mojamil.github.io/einsteintoolkit ] [RH] http://lists.einsteintoolkit.org/pipermail/users/2021-April/007924.html Roland : Github actions based. Current machines will shut down in October. Want atleast a minimum working set on Github. Mohammed Jamil is going to present next week ~ 15 -20mins to explain the setup. * [https://www.einsteintoolkit.org/tools/unanswered.php unanswered question on mailing list] * [https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues?status=open&sta tus=new&sort=-updated_on open tickets sorted by update time] * [https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues?status=new&stat us=open&sort=-updated_on&q=Please%20review tickets ready for review] Future call chairs and minute takers: 29-Apr : Chair - Peter D, Minutes - Miguel G 6-Mar : Chair - Steve B (need confirmation from), Minutes - Bill G ---------------------------- End of Call ---------------------------- Atul Kedia PhD Candidate University of Notre Dame
