benchmarks
by Steven R. Brandt 02 Dec '13

The utils/benchmarks contains a number of parameter files. All of them refer to thorns that are not part of the ET. I'm not sure where they might live. BenchIO BSSN_MoL FlexIO IOFlexIO whisky_init_data whisky whisky_rnsid Are these out of date? Are there better files to use for benchmarking? Cheers, Steve

Archiving Thorns
by Frank Loeffler 27 Nov '13

27 Nov '13

Hi At the call next Monday I will propose to archive the following thorns. This means that their repository will be moved to EinsteinArchive (if it's not already there like ADM), and it will be taken out of the Einstein Toolkit thornlist. It will continue to be available for download, but will not receive as much maintenance and testing as thorns within the toolkit. Especially ADM is still needed by some testsuites within the toolkit, and this would obviously need to be changed beforehand. ADM DistortedBHIVP IDAxiBrillBH IDAxiOddBrillBH RoatingDBHIVP Please let us know if you used one of these in the last years. Frank

Hi, The automated build and test server, build.barrywardell.net and the ET git mirrors at git.barrywardell.net are currently down due to problems (possibly power-related) at UCD. -- Ian Hinder http://numrel.aei.mpg.de/people/hinder

Build error
by Steven R. Brandt 26 Nov '13

26 Nov '13

I'm getting the following build error with the Chemora code base on Supermike: COMPILING /work/sbrandt/Cactus/arrangements/McLachlanCaKernel/ML_BSSN_Host/src/ML_BSSN_Host_convertFromADMBaseGamma.cc /work/sbrandt/Cactus/arrangements/McLachlanCaKernel/ML_BSSN_Host/src/ML_BSSN_Host_convertFromADMBaseGamma.cc(191): error: argument of type "__m256d" is incompatible with parameter of type "double" ptrdiff_t dir1 = Sign(beta1L); ^ Apparently it's unhappy with some of the vectorization. Any idea what should be done about it? Cheers, Steve

Binary Neutron Star evolution with Gamma-Law EOS
by Petr Tsatsin 26 Nov '13

26 Nov '13

Hello, I've recently tried to perform simulation of the binary neutron stars started from Meudon initial data. I've encountered a following problem. I can run the simulations without any problems when I use polytropic EOS. However, when I switch to Gamma-Law simulations crushed soon after start somewhere in the conversion of primitive quantities to conserved quantities. The typical log is look like this one: WARNING[L1,P28] (GRHydro): Con2Prim failed; stopping the code. New Einstein Toolkit Release
by Frank Loeffler 26 Nov '13

26 Nov '13

We are pleased to announce the eighth release (code name "Noether") of the Einstein Toolkit, an open, community developed software infrastructure for relativistic astrophysics. This release includes various improvements to the Cactus flesh, Carpet and GRHydro. In addition, bug fixes accumulated since the previous release in May 2013 have been included. For more detailed information about the "Noether" release please read the long release announcement on the Einstein Toolkit web pages: http://einsteintoolkit.org/about/releases/ET_2013_11_announcement.php. The Einstein Toolkit is a collection of software components and tools for simulating and analyzing general relativistic astrophysical systems that builds on numerous software efforts in the numerical relativity community including CactusEinstein, the Carpet AMR infrastructure and the relativistic magneto-hydrodynamics code GRHydro. The Cactus Framework is used as the underlying computational infrastructure providing large-scale parallelization, general computational components, and a model for collaborative, portable code development. The toolkit includes modules to build complete codes for simulating black hole spacetimes as well as systems governed by relativistic magneto-hydrodynamics. The Einstein Toolkit uses a distributed software model and its different modules are developed, distributed, and supported either by the core team of Einstein Toolkit Maintainers, or by individual groups. Where modules are provided by external groups, the Einstein Toolkit Maintainers provide quality control for modules for inclusion in the toolkit and help coordinate support. The Einstein Toolkit Maintainers currently involve postdocs and faculty from six different institutions, and host weekly meetings that are open for anyone to join in. Guiding principles for the design and implementation of the toolkit include: open, community-driven software development; well thought out and stable interfaces; separation of physics software from computational science infrastructure; provision of complete working production code; training and education for a new generation of researchers. For more information about using or contributing to the Einstein Toolkit, or to join the Einstein Toolkit Consortium, please visit our web pages at http://einsteintoolkit.org. The Einstein Toolkit is primarily supported by NSF 1212401/1212426/1212433/1212460 (Einstein Toolkit), and also by 0905046/0941653 (PetaCactus) and 0710874 (LONI Grid). The Einstein Toolkit contains about 200 regression test cases. On a large portion of the tested machines, almost all of these testsuites pass, using both MPI and OpenMP parallelization. Supported (tested) machines include: - Default Debian, Suse and Fedora installations - Bethe - Bluewaters - Datura - Kraken - Loewe - Lonestar - Supermike II - Nvidia - Philip - Queenbee - Stampede - Titan - Trestles - Zwicky All repositories participating in this release carry a branch ET_2013_11 marking this release. These release branches will be updated if severe errors are found. Could it be that this mechanism commits everything instead of just new results? Frank
