Simulation Factory usage survey

Hello all, to coordinate Simulation Factory development and focus efforts in areas that are both used and in need of improvement we would like to collect a snapshot of how Simulation Factory is currently being used. Steven suggested to use a code that is officially part of the ET, this limits the options to CCZ4 McLachlan. People agreed CCZ4 is what should be use. * Tutorial server down[RH] The server is now working again. * Simfactory survey<http://lists.einsteintoolkit.org/pipermail/users/2021-January/007754.html> [RH] Survey about simfactory was sent with the purpose of knowing what simfactory features people are using. This will serve as a guide to improve the python 3 simfactory version. * Unanswered questions / open tickets / tickets ready to review # 2491 Zach E. added notes to the ticket with a Roland’s suggestion about a possible solution. #963 Peter D. will take a look this week. #2462 Steve B. will take a look on this ticket. #1631 Multipole patch, hard coded limit for number of l, Roland’s patch fixed this. * Other comments -Karima S. had interpolation errors. This error could appear when a spherical surface(s) radius is larger than the domain or when AHFinder is looking for an apparent horizon using a surface with radius larger than the domain. The error was due to an incorrect par file setting. "---core= 2, thread= 1--" worked, thank you very much for the support. Greetings Einstein Toolkit users! We are excited to announce an upcoming *Einstein Toolkit Seminar*, which will take place on *Thursday, Feb 4, 2021* at our usual telecon time (10AM US Eastern Time) in the usual telecon Zoom channel ( https://lsu.zoom.us/j/631356683). Our speaker will be *Gabriele Bozzola, from the University of Arizona*, and he'll be talking about "*Kuibit: a community-friendly tool to analyze Cactus simulations*". Here are some more details: *Abstract* Analyzing Einstein Toolkit simulations can be a challenging task. Usually, the process involves a series of technical obstacles like combining data from different restarts or working with HDF5 files. In this talk, I will present kuibit, a Python3.6+ library that takes care of all these low-level details (and many other more) and that provides high-level, intuitive, representations of the data. Kuibit comes with a wide range of features that include full support for 1-3D ASCII and HDF5 grid data, time and frequency series, gravitational waves, and apparent horizons. With kuibit, users can inspect most of the content of a simulation with just a few lines of code. Importantly, kuibit is designed to be a code for the community: it is user-friendly and does not require any proprietary software to run, it has documentation and examples, and it is openly developed with emphasis on extensibility and maintainability. Roland hasn't set the poll out, but ready to send out. All three versions, though, compile and run. He had to modify Kranc. Overview of CarpetX: ==================== Can do some science but could use some real world workload No existing thorns work, but new thorns could be adapted. Can use GPUs (can run Hydro toy code) Indicate interest in seeing the overview on Gitter chat https://gitter.im/EinsteinToolkit/EinsteinToolkit?at=600712b2004fab47415049… Yosef would like to attend but cannot login to Gitter Maybe have an overview presented on the call? Dear Dr. Ronald and Dr. Peter, I have a 4 core laptop, and I am using 'Simfactory' command to run the par file. I have tested both of your suggestions. The addition of "--cores=2 --num-threads=1" gives me the attached error while the "--cores=4 --num-threads=2" option gives, "Error: Too many nodes specified: nodes=2 (maxnodes is 1) Aborting Simfactory". Hello there, Here is the error attached I encountered while evolving black holes binary. The work-around I guess is to increase the number of processes (if I am not wrong), but I am not quite sure how to do that. I need some help to get around this issue. Thanks in advance Best regards, KS
