Hi, A quick update: I have recreated the Jenkins master and build nodes from backups, and have the new machines running. I am still waiting to hear from the NCSA security team concerning exactly what the vulnerability was. I can't make Jenkins available publicly until we are confident that the vulnerability is not still exposed. The same 5 tests that had been failing before are still failing, but I don't see any failures in McLachlan. Present: Steve, Yosef, Roland, Bill, Erik, Bruno, Eloisa, Ian, Bhavesh, Peter, Gabrielle KNL status: * Cactus supports AVX512, uncovered a bug in Carpet's prolongation op code, patch is up for review Steve will look at it, this also makes tests pass for floats rather than doubles ET workshop in Mallorca update: * http://grg.uib.es/EinsteinToolkit2017/ * 11-14 of October, last day is Ed Fest * will have intro to ET on the 11th * 12th, 13th will be fully dedicated to ET, contributed talks on 12th, 13th will be future plans and developments * will also get together to submit "cost" proposal, which supports building networks in the EU * will include on ET website once more details are fixed * registration is officially closed, room block is gone, rooms can in principle still be booked but there is no guarantee to have a room anymore status of servers at LSU: * simfactory.org is back up * Roland says that Ian has hooked the ET websites to uptime service and can likely add others to the recipient list (or just at the test(a)einsteintoolkit.org mailing list) Transitioning ExternalLibs to git/svn: * Roland has a proof of concept move to github, which lets end users use svn for downloads. Another change (in principle separate) modifies history so that the git repository has manageable size by turning the tar.gz files into tar files so that git's delta-compression works * will move discussion to mailing list and come to a decision next week ad-hoc topics: * Erik has patch for Carpet that disables OpenMP in the prolongation ops, this makes it actually faster for some cases. Roland will provide freedback for KNL. * Gabrielle will create facebook page for ET and add Steve Brandt as admin to the page * not much of a discussion on working groups last week, working document is https://docs.google.com/document/d/1j12IEY8kH6R33qfXpD5BaDDXLEYdNceEqf9crLu… * working groups are advertised on the ET mailing list and decided upon by the maintainers, thus the working group memberships and plans are public and have set deadlines for milestones * procedure is approved, send documents to maintainers(a)einsteintoolkit.org No ET phone call next week due to labor day holiday in the US the next meeting will be 2017-09-11. Triggering on cctk_time
by Ian Hinder 29 Aug '17

29 Aug '17

Hi, In the Trigger thorn, is it possible to set a trigger on cctk_time, so that a certain parameter is steered at a particular time? It looks like it only supports Cactus grid variables and scalars. -- Ian Hinder http://members.aei.mpg.de/ianhin

Output corrupted
by Ian Hinder 25 Aug '17

25 Aug '17

Hi Roland, In the release notes for the current release, it is written http://einsteintoolkit.org/about/releases/ET_2017_06_announcement.html: -(#) On Comet, using more than one MPI process might produce corrupt output files. This is a known file system bug on this machine. https://docs.einsteintoolkit.org/et-docs/Release_coordination: • comet • failures on multiple MPI ranks are almost certainly due to the file system bug that corrupts ASCII output files. Nothing we can do about it at this point (there is a ticket by Milton Ruiz with SDSC) short of adding various strange workarounds to every output routine (and it may still fail for checkpoint and recovery as is happening to the SpEC code right now) Do you have any more details? I had the feeling that it was you who was fighting this. Would it be possible to add an autoconf or runtime test, so that users are at least made aware of the problem? Do you know of other systems that are affected? Do we have an ET ticket for this? -- Ian Hinder http://members.aei.mpg.de/ianhin

Error on Ubuntu Machine
by rahul kashyap 24 Aug '17

24 Aug '17

Hello all, Could anybody please help me in resolving this error during ./simfactory/bin/sim build --mdbkey make 'make -j2' --thornlist=manifest/ einsteintoolkit.th ? configure: error: strdup has no C prototype. Try adding -D_XOPEN_SOURCE -D_XOPEN_SOURCE_EXTENDED to CPPFLAGS I'm doing it on an ubuntu machine but, I got same error when I was doing it on a local cluster. I tried adding this to CPPFLAGS in vi lib/make/make.config.defn.in but, didn't help. Thanks in advance. -Rahul

simfactory.org down
by Roland Haas 23 Aug '17

Hello all, it seems as if the simulation factory homepage http://simfactory.org is not reachable and instead resolves to a default LSU page. Could someone at LSU please check on this from your side?
