questions about compilation
by 林家暉 23 Jan '18

23 Jan '18

Dear sir/madam, I am a master student of physics department ,National Taiwan University, and a beginner of Einstein toolkit. I started with my laptop and everything worked fine. While I turning to super cluster called Edison ,NERSC, some errors came up during compilation(that is, after I type the command:$ ./simfactory/bin/sim build ). 1.The attached file is the screenshot of the error message. It seems the error is caused by compiler. However the same error appeared after shifting the intel compiler to cray compiler or gnu compiler. How can I solve the error? 2.The machine definition file of Edison(edison.ini) is last tested in May,2015, so I am afraid that some information of the machine is outdated . Is this related to the previous problem(1.)? How can I update this file ? Thanks for your help. Best regards, Chia Hui Lin

Fwd: [RES-users] RES - Call for proposals for scientific workshops
by helvi witek 23 Nov '17

23 Nov '17

Hi Miguel, everyone, the Spanish Supercomputing Center (BSC/RES) opened this year's call for scientific workshops. Would that be something to support the Einstein Toolkit meeting in Lisbon next year? Please check the information below and their website. The proposal does not look to involved and the BSC/RES would fund up to 3000euros per accepted event. The deadline is 18th December. cheers, Helvi =========================================== Dr. Helvi Witek Marie-Curie Research Fellow Dep. Fisica Quantica i Astrofisica & ICCUB Universitat de Barcelona =========================================== ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Marta Renato <marta.renato(a)bsc.es> Date: Wed, Nov 15, 2017 at 11:51 AM Subject: [RES-users] RES - Call for proposals for scientific workshops To: Lista MN users <MN-users(a)bsc.es> Dear RES users, The Spanish Supercomputing Network has opened the second *call for proposals to organize Scientific Workshops*. This call is open to all the researchers from the Spanish public R&D sector, and the RES will fund the eligible costs of accepted events up to 3000 euros. The Scientific Workshops must focus on the applications of HPC technologies in any field of research. You can find the call text and the application form in https://www.res.es/en/events/call-proposals-scientific-workshops. Proposals must be sent to applications(a)bsc.es until the *18th of December of 2017* (11:00 a.m. CET). If you have any doubt, do not hesitate to contact me. Re: [Users] Fedora 27 Compilation error
by ZhiChao Zhao 21 Nov '17

If you enable 'checkpoint', it doesn't matter when your machine encounters a power failure. Because the program will continue its evolution at the " checkpoint time". If you want to use this feature, the following configures in parameter will be helpfull. ''' IOHDF5::checkpoint = "yes" IO::checkpoint_dir = $parfile IO::checkpoint_ID = "yes" IO::checkpoint_every_walltime_hours = 6.0 CarpetIOHDF5::checkpoint_every_divisor = 55552 IO::checkpoint_keep=4 IO::checkpoint_on_terminate = "yes" IO::recover = "autoprobe" IO::recover_dir = $parfile ''' Best wishies, ZhiChao Zhao. -- Theoretical Physics Division, Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, P.O.Box 918-4, Beijing,100049, P.R.China zhaozc(a)ihep.ac.cn

Fedora 27 Compilation error
by iconoklastic91＠gmail.com 21 Nov '17

Fedora 27 has just been released in final form, I did not expect to find any previous references to it yet. (I'm using x86_64, of course.) I preferred to use Fedora because I had little trouble getting it to hibernate, which might be important when using this software on a primitive computer. In the event of a power failure, although not frequent, the job would not be terminated by the event. The only problem I had encountered with Fedora 26 was with openmpi. Fedora does not put it into the standard search path, but into /usr/lib64/openmpi/bin, which must be added. I upgraded Fedora 26 to 27 in place, leaving the Cactus installation untouched. The only problem I had with it was that Fedora 27 removed /usr/lib64/libgsl.so.19, which I had to add after the upgrade was completed. Then I attempted to install Cactus on a freshly-installed Fedora 27 installation. Things went well for a while, but eventually I encountered this: COMPILING arrangements/McLachlan/ML_BSSN/src/RegisterSymmetries.ccCOMPILING arrangements/McLachlan/ML_BSSN/src/Startup.ccCreating /home/jontester/Cactus/configs/sim/lib/libthorn_ML_BSSN.amake: *** [Makefile:260: sim] Error 2 I would be interested to know why this occurred. For the present time it does not inconvenience me, but I'm sure the software will continue to evolve. (My name isn't Jon Tester, but I use this user for experimental software.)

Cartoon2D with the modern thorns?
by Jonah Miller 20 Nov '17

20 Nov '17

Hi all, Has anyone run a simulation with Cartoon2D, Carpet, and McLachlan and/or GRHydro? If so, would you be willing to share a parameter file? I'm interested in doing this and I just wanted to check if there has been bitrot in Cartoon2D or if there are any easily avoided gotchas. Thanks! Best, Jonah Miller
