Who committed this? Which previous versions being discarded, and why? new simfactory configuration for kraken after OS update
by Roland Haas 12 Mar '12

12 Mar '12

Hello all, I seem to have trouble compiling Cactus on kraken after NICS's recent (Mar 8th) OS update, see https://portal.xsede.org/web/xup/user-news/-/news/item/5707 . Right now it will not even mpi.h (most likely since SYS_INC_DIRS=/opt/cray/mpt/5.0.0/xt/seastar/mpich2-intel/include no longer exists). Before I start trying to make this work again (Kraken's build system being very special): has anybody already updated kraken's machine database entries? Yours, Roland -- My email is as private as my paper mail. I therefore support encrypting and signing email messages. Get my PGP key from http://keys.gnupg.net.

yt visualization software for Carpet hdf5 data?
by Bruno Giacomazzo 12 Mar '12

12 Mar '12

Hi, did anyone have a look at how to read Carpet 3D HDF5 data into the yt visualization software? In case you don't know it, it's a public-available python based visualization software: http://yt-project.org/ I recently saw a movie done with yt with volume rendering using data from an Athena simulations done by a PhD student here at JILA (the quality looked similar to Amira to me). He told me that one of the yt developers (Sam Skillman) is always interested to support other data formats, but before contacting him I wanted to check if anybody else had a look into it. Cheers, Bruno Dr. Bruno Giacomazzo JILA - University of Colorado 440 UCB Boulder, CO 80309 USA Tel. : +1 303-492-0389 Fax : +1 303-492-5235 email : bruno.giacomazzo(a)jila.colorado.edu web: http://www.brunogiacomazzo.org ---------------------------------------------------------------------- There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Einstein Toolkit Meeting
by Frank Loeffler 12 Mar '12

12 Mar '12

Hi Please consider joining the weekly Einstein Toolkit phone call at 10 am US central time on Mondays. As usual, you can find instructions how to join on the following web site: http://einsteintoolkit.org/community/support/ I short: the number is (+1) 225-578-4942 or (+1) 866-573-0359 and the conference id is 118682#. This week's meeting will be short. The only point on the agenda are issues which you might want to bring up. In other words there is no fixed agenda. After that, the authors of the ET paper will meet to finalize the response to the referees, with more details in a separate email. Also remember: the ET workshop is coming up and a number of people should prepare: [1] https://docs.einsteintoolkit.org/et-docs/ET_Workshop_Spring_2012 Frank Loeffler

ETK in NERSC machines (Hopper/Carver) does not work properly
by Jose Fiestas Iquira 12 Mar '12

Dear colleagues, I was trying the last days to install an own application based on ETK in NERSC machines (Hopper/Carver), having some problems during the compilation. Before trying to find the real problem, I started from scratch and realize I can not even checkout ETK properly. Does somebody tried it in machines different as LONI machines since the last release? Would appreciate any experience about it. Below my steps: 1. Hi, I syncronized as well from Queenbee to Hopper/Carver getting the same errors. I will try to set bash in NIM, loggin again and start from scratch. Will report. Jose When you tried bash, how did you switch to bash? using PBS -V on kraken
by Roland Haas 09 Mar '12

09 Mar '12

Hello all, I'd like to use PBS's -V switch (propagates environment settings to the qsub script) on Kraken (through simfactory2). Simfactory currently does not use this swich on Kraken. In fact NICS recommends against using -V (http://www.nics.tennessee.edu/computing-resources/kraken/running-jobs#Batch…): --8<-- Note: Please do not use the PBS -V option. This can propagate large numbers of environment variable settings from the submitting shell into a job which may cause problems for the batch environment. Instead of using PBS -V, please pass only necessary environment variables using -v <comma_separated_list_of_ needed_envars>. You can also include module load statements in the job script. --8<-- TACC on the other hand actually requires you to have the flag present (for the modules I presume). Did anyone every actually experience any issues with -V on Kraken? Mostly I would like to use the flag so that Cactus' $ENV{'...'} mechanism works without me having to modify the run/submission scripts by hand. Is there maybe a simfactory option to define extra environment variables (I only need one but would rather not hard-code it into the submission script and instead could add it to the submit call)? Yours, Roland -- My email is as private as my paper mail. I therefore support encrypting and signing email messages. Get my PGP key from http://keys.gnupg.net.

about "position_(x|y|z)[0-9]..asc" in CarpetRegrid2
by Kentaro Takami 08 Mar '12

Hi, all, I noticed that data of "position_(x|y|z)[0-9]..asc" in CarpetRegrid2 is sometimes not correct at restarting point from checkpoint. After restarting the run, the value of first one point become "0" ( See attached figure). I guess this wrong values are only on outputted files and internally correct value are used. Is this right?
