Calling BLAS from Fortran
by Ian Hinder 14 Nov '16

14 Nov '16

Hi, What is the correct way to call a BLAS routine from a Fortran Cactus thorn? I am trying to compile the LlamaWaveToy, and it does this: subroutine LWT_min_spacing (CCTK_ARGUMENTS) use lapack ... call syev ('N', 'U', 3, gg, 3, ev, work, lwork, info) and at link time, I get /home/ianhin/Cactus/EinsteinToolkitGit/configs/etllama/lib/libthorn_LlamaWaveToy.a(min_spacing.F90.o): In function `lwt_min_spacing': /home/ianhin/Cactus/EinsteinToolkitGit/arrangements/Llama/LlamaWaveToy/src/min_spacing.F90:38: undefined reference to `syev_' Do I need to do something special to make the symbol found, or to convert Fortran to C names, etc? -- Ian Hinder http://members.aei.mpg.de/ianhin

Information about grid decomposition
by breu＠th.physik.uni-frankfurt.de 10 Nov '16

Dear users of the Einstein Toolkit, I have a question: I would like to integrate the geodesic equations for a large quantity of particles in parallel (e.g. one million). To save computational time, I want to make sure that the arrays containing the particle data are handled by the same process that takes care of the corresponding grid patch on which the particles are moving and only communicate particle data if a particle moves to another grid patch. Since I only want a process to communicate with the processes that contain the adjacent grid patches, can I access information on which process owns which grid patch and if yes, how? So far I have only found functions that return the upper and lower bounds for the local process, but each process would need to know where all the rest of the grid is. Kind regards, Cosima Breu

ET release fails 4 tests
by Ian Hinder 09 Nov '16

09 Nov '16

Hi, I reran the "EinsteinToolkitReleased" Jenkins job today, and it has 4 failing tests. The code has not changed since the previous run on 7th October (when all tests passed), but the build and test node is using a different OS and CPU. The change in CPU was unavoidable as the old node is no longer available. The change in OS was somewhat unintentional, but I suspect the problem comes from the CPU. I believe that this was also observed for trunk; is that correct? 3 out of 4 failures are related to NaNs. The 4th is not. https://build-test.barrywardell.net/job/EinsteinToolkitReleased/107/testRep… -- Ian Hinder http://members.aei.mpg.de/ianhin

Present: Eloisa, Frank, Haris, Vassili, Ian, Josh, Steve, Roland, Erik ET release: * planned for end of November * run test suite on your local workstations to make sure we cover all flavors of Linux, OSX etc. * Roland to run on BW, Frank to create a list of desired machines and contact possible runners * Roland to add the hard-link fixes back to formaline to improve build speed Fortran code in GRHydro: * announce in release that Fortran code will go away in the next release. Point out the CXX code has been the default for at least one release. Give users opportunity to speak up if it should be retained. Llama into the ET: * needs push: Ian, Peter volunteers and will recruit people * needs check on documentation, needs examples and test cases Yours, Roland -- My email is as private as my paper mail. FunHPC work day postponed
by Erik Schnetter 03 Nov '16

03 Nov '16

I caught a cold and am not feeling too well. We will need to postpone the FunHPC work day planned for tomorrow. I realize that this is the second day that the FunHPC work day is being postponed. I'm sorry about this -- I'm actually quite excited that so many others are interested in this approach. A more flexible multi-threading in Cactus has the potential for huge performance benefits. I hope we can re-schedule for some time next week. I've cleaned up the Cactus and Einstein Toolkit branches that support FunHPC, but a respective wiki page is not yet ready. -erik -- Erik Schnetter <schnetter(a)gmail.com> http://www.perimeterinstitute.ca/personal/eschnetter/
