Printing values when using MPI
by Chris Stevens 21 Jun '18

21 Jun '18

Hi everyone, I am currently debugging some code and have been printing out (using either CCTK_INFO and/or printf) debugging information at particular grid points (LOCAL mode). From what I can tell, Cactus only allows output from one process, say rank 0, to stop flooding of the output by printing everything once per process. However if I am wanting data from a particular grid point, and this grid point is not in the printing process, nothing will output. I have been getting around this by turning off MPI (fine for one iteration or so) but now I am doing longer runs I need to be able to print out this information with MPI. Thus my question: How can you force Cactus to print out a statement from any process? Spam on Trac

Hi all, Important: Now that trac is back online, it seems that someone is trying to spam it (see below). Trac still down; Broken Link on ETK homepage
by Zach Etienne 18 Jun '18

18 Jun '18

Hi all, *Issue #1: Trac still down* trac is still down (infinite redirect). Do we have a status update on this, or should we just create a standby issue tracker that can be used until trac is back up? It would be easier to migrate back to trac than move everything to a new issue tracker. *Issue #2: Broken link in ETK website:* A tarball of the release is also available here <http://einsteintoolkit.org/tarballs/>, but using GetComponents is the preferred method to obtain the code. Use the tarball only if there is no way to use GetComponents (which should almost never be the case). "here" above points to http://einsteintoolkit.org/tarballs/ , which is a broken link. -Zach * * * Zachariah Etienne Assistant Professor of Mathematics West Virginia University http://math.wvu.edu/~zetienne/

update on wiki login
by helvi witek 18 Jun '18

18 Jun '18

Dear all, is there an update on how to access our wiki? I just tried to add the meeting minutes of the ET Working Group "Cosmology and Particles" call and was asked to login. When trying to create an account I just get a "reCAPTCHA V1 is shutdown" message. Is there a workaround that I missed? Incidentally, I tried to add this question to the ticket https://trac.einsteintoolkit.org/ticket/2135 but got an error "Submission rejected as potential spam" when I submitted the comment. cheers, Helvi =========================================== Dr. Helvi Witek Royal Society University Research Fellow Theoretical Particle Physics and Cosmology Department of Physics King's College London ===========================================

Errors in Centos when compiling
by 徐泽坤 15 Jun '18

15 Jun '18

Hello all, I'm using a workstation to compiling the Einstein toolkit with Centos 7. But I have never used Centos before, so some errors have appeared when ran the code ./simfactory/bin/sim build --mdbkey make 'make -j2' --thornlist ../einsteintoolkit.th The output has been send. I'm looking for your instruction. Thanks in advance. Yours, Zekun.

Configure Error While Compiling
by Jared Coughlin 13 Jun '18

13 Jun '18

Hello! My adviser is trying to install the Einstein Toolkit, but getting the following error when compiling: configure: WARNING: Did not find a suitable static opal hwloc component He's compiling on the same cluster that I did (and following the same instructions), and it worked with no issues for me, which is odd. He also said that running the GetComponents script fails to get some of the components (again, I did not have this problem), so I'm guessing that that is the real issue. I was just wondering if anyone knew why the GetComponents script would fail or, if the error is unrelated to that, what it means? Thanks! Sincerely, -Jared

problems of reproducing the simulation of binary neutron star with different mass
by 林家暉 13 Jun '18

13 Jun '18

Dear whom it may concern, I am trying to reproduce the simulation of binary neutron star (http://einsteintoolkit.org/gallery/bns/index.html) with different mass. I use Lorene code to produce the initial data . The parameter files I used is locate in /Lorene/Codes/Bin_star/Parameters/Polytrope_irrot/Test_GR . And I changed central enthalpy of each star in par_init.d to get different mass (Is there other way I can get different mass?). And then I simulate with the ET. However I met some problems: 1.I requested 48 cores with 10 hours to run the code , however the code terminated after running ~4 hours. And the end of .err file reads: cactus_sim: /global/u1/c/chlin/Cactus/arrangements/Carpet/Carpet/src/helpers.cc:275: int Carpet::Abort(const _cGH *, int): Assertion `0' failed. cactus_sim: /global/u1/c/chlin/Cactus/arrangements/Carpet/Carpet/src/helpers.cc:275: int Carpet::Abort(const _cGH *, int): Assertion `0' failed. Rank 0 with PID 47930 received signal 6 Writing backtrace to nsnstohmns/backtrace.0.txt Rank 1 with PID 47931 received signal 6 Writing backtrace to nsnstohmns/backtrace.1.txt cactus_sim: /global/u1/c/chlin/Cactus/arrangements/Carpet/Carpet/src/helpers.cc:275: int Carpet::Abort(const _cGH *, int): Assertion `0' failed. cactus_sim: /global/u1/c/chlin/Cactus/arrangements/Carpet/Carpet/src/helpers.cc:275: int Carpet::Abort(const _cGH *, int): Assertion `0' failed. Rank 2 with PID 13239 received signal 6 Rank 3 with PID 13240 received signal 6 Writing backtrace to nsnstohmns/backtrace.2.txt Writing backtrace to nsnstohmns/backtrace.3.txt srun: error: nid05930: tasks 2-3: Aborted srun: Terminating job step 9192104.0 srun: error: nid05920: tasks 0-1: Aborted The code is aborted without completing the whole process until the merger. How can I perform the complete process? 2. When I use visit to do the visualization ,I found the file rho.xy.h5 only has half of the whole simulation as : [cid:e66a53d5-d406-4599-997f-00e90a864dc0] The tutorial(scripts.tar.gz<http://einsteintoolkit.org/gallery/bns/scripts.tar.gz>) tells that I should use symmetric reflection to perform the whole visualization. However I cannot use this method since I simulated binary star with different mass . So there is no symmetry. How can I get the whole picture instead of only half ? Thank you. Best regards, Chia-Hui Lin

Re: [Users] Error about the Binary neutron star simulation in Einstein Toolkit Workbench
by Steven R. Brandt 11 Jun '18

11 Jun '18

Did you modify the time limit on the simulation? The workbench has both CPU and memory limits, and jobs that exceed them die with a kill 9. I suspect you encountered the former. Thanks. --Steve On 06/08/2018 11:18 PM, 徐泽坤 wrote: > Hello all, > > When I doing the simulation of Binary neutron star in Einstein toolkit > index Gallery. Meeting Notes
by Steven R. Brandt 11 Jun '18

11 Jun '18

Bill Anderson (Eastern New Mexico), Peter Diener, Yosef Zlochower, Steven R. Brandt, Bhavesh, Ian Hinder, Bill Gabella Bill Anderson called, worked with Roland to get the ET running on Darwin. Peter - Gallery examples still not working. Bhavesh - The schedule for the workshop is now up. People can still register. Miguel - Trying to get a more definite agenda for the meeting in September. Need more abstract submissions. Can they run JupyterHub on the cluster? Jenkins update isn't working because of some issue with the lsu repository. Tutorial machine running on Jetstream burned through allocation on XSEDE. Yosef has had trouble running the latest Visit with Carpet with IOHDF5. Can only load a few data sets. No call next week. I will be away 6/25 and will not be able to run the call.
