Help with hyperslabbing error message
by Shoup, Anthony 26 Jan '19

Hi All, I am conducting initial testing of using the Einstein Toolkit on my cluster. I have been able to complete successful runs of the example simulation: BBHMedRes.par with multiple mpi processes per node with 1 thread per process. Now I am exploring using multiple threads per process. My first attempt was 1 process per node and 2 threads per process. However, simulation aborted after about the third regrid with the error: WARNING level 0 from host node1 process 0 while executing schedule bin BoundaryConditions, routine RotatingSymmetry180::Rot180_ApplyBC in thorn RotatingSymmetry180, file /home/Cactus/Cactus/configs/sim/build/RotatingSymmetry180/rotatingsymmetry180.c:460: -> TAT/Slab can only be used if there is a single local component per MPI process cactus_sim: /home/Cactus/Cactus/configs/sim/build/Carpet/helpers.cc:275: int Carpet::Abort(const cGH*, int): Assertion `0' failed. Is there a parameter in my .par file I need to change? I have attached my par file to this email. Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated. Tony... North American Einstein Toolkit Workshop (fixed link)
by Yosef Zlochower 17 Jan '19

17 Jan '19

We are pleased to announce the 2019 edition of the North American Einstein Toolkit workshop. The workshop to be held at the Rochester Institute of Technology will provide an opportunity for researchers and students to learn about the toolkit and discuss its future development. The Einstein Toolkit https://einsteintoolkit.org/ is a community-driven software platform of core computational tools to advance and support research in relativistic astrophysics and gravitational physics. The workshop will be held on June 17 through June 19, with morning sessions on the first two days dedicated to discussing the status and future directions of the toolkit, and afternoon sessions dedicated to tutorials for new users. The final day will be dedicated to discussing codes and techniques used by other collaborations and the feasibility of importing those algorithms into the toolkit. More information can be found at https://ccrg.rit.edu/content/events/2019-06-17/north-american-einstein-tool…

The danger of moving a meeting time is that sometimes it is hard to adapt to the new schedule. I forgot to call in and I see no notes. Sorry, everyone. I'll update my calendar reminders and see you all next week. --Steve

Spacetime evolution with hydro refluxing
by Jens Mahlmann 10 Jan '19

10 Jan '19

Dear all, I have recently changed my hydro simulations to the Refluxing strategy implemented by Erik Schnetter. For this I have changed the standard configuration to a *cell centred refinement, staggered boundaries and low order spatial prolongation for the hydro variables*. Since then I experience problems with BSSN or, more specifically, the QuasilocalMeasures thorn (a=0.9 black hole). After an initially fine behaviour, *no Eigenvector with value one is found and the spacetime gradually crashes*. I am still puzzled where this is coming from. Does anybody have some experience with the combination spacetime evolution + hydro refluxing, i.e. the somewhat different grid setup? I would be glad for any input to see where I start to fix my work. Thank you very much and my best from Valencia Jens

Modfication of Hydro_Analysis thorn
by Federico Cipolletta 10 Jan '19

10 Jan '19

I and my group have done a modification of the Hydro_Analysis thorn, in order to compute the baryonic mass. We have done all the corrections suggested by Rolan Haas in order to release our version and also produced the relative test suite. I tried to create a ticket in order to pull our modification, but an external account is needed to do this. I sent an email to rraether(a)cct.lsu.edu like it is written on the website, but I had no new notification. What steps I should follow in order to proceed with the pull of our modification? Best Regards, Federico Cipolletta.
