LoopControl failure when changing grid resolution
by Andrea Endrizzi 11 Apr '19

11 Apr '19

Hi all, I wanted to change resolution on a TOV test with the ET_2018_09 release on the ARA hpc (Local cluster at Jena FSU). I just removed one of the refinement levels from carpet and when I tried to run I got this error: exec: /home/wa65fop/CS_Wu/THC_ZM1/Cactus/arrangements/Carpet/LoopControl/src/loopcontrol.cc:260: T <unnamed>::divexact(T, T) [with T = int]: Assertion `i % j == 0' failed. I dug up the backtrace and it seems this template function is called within a routine related to ADM variables transformation. However, I did not manage to track it back to something directly resolution related. Any suggestion would be welcome! Thanks already for your help! Best regards, Andrea Endrizzi

Do you have a backtrace? -erik On Sunday, March 22, 2015, Einstein Toolkit < trac-noreply(a)einsteintoolkit.org> wrote: > #1326: running loopcontrol on strange number of threads fails > ------------------------------------+--------------------------------------- > Reporter: rhaas | Owner: > Type: defect | Status: new > Priority: minor | Milestone: > Component: EinsteinToolkit thorn | Version: > Resolution: | Keywords: LoopControl > ------------------------------------+--------------------------------------- > > Comment (by rhaas): > > This still happens even with current (Sun Mar 22 18:46:21 CET 2015) trunk, > though failure looks a bit different now: > {{{ > actus_sim: > /data/rhaas/postdoc/gr/ET_trunk/configs/sim/build/LoopControl/loopcontrol.cc:312: > T {anonymous}::divexact(T, T) [with T = int]: Assertion `i % j == 0' > failed > }}} > > -- > Ticket URL: <https://trac.einsteintoolkit.org/ticket/1326#comment:1> > Einstein Toolkit <http://einsteintoolkit.org> > The Einstein Toolkit > _______________________________________________ > Trac mailing list > Trac(a)einsteintoolkit.org > http://lists.einsteintoolkit.org/mailman/listinfo/trac > -- Erik Schnetter <schnetter(a)cct.lsu.edu> http://www.perimeterinstitute.ca/personal/eschnetter/

BSSN, 8th order accurate -- how much dissipation?
by Erik Schnetter 09 Apr '19

09 Apr '19

I am trying to set up a binary black hole simulation that uses 8th order accurate finite differencing. (I need the black holes to be highly resolved, and I don't need the wave zone, thus I am not use AMR.) On the other hand, I am using Cartoon2D, and I extended it to support 8th order interpolation. My problem is that I cannot get the simulation started well. After a few (about 70) time steps, the code aborts due to nans. Of course, having modified thorn Cartoon2D, I cannot exclude that I made an error there. On the other hand, I did find some pre-existing errors that I corrected. I wonder: What are good settings for numerical dissipation in this case (ML_BSSN with fdOrder=8)? I see a sample parameter file that uses epsDiss = 0.1; should I expect this to work? Would puncture initial conditions need any kind of special treatment? (I'm using TwoPunctures.) Thanks, -erik -- Erik Schnetter <eschnetter(a)perimeterinstitute.ca> http://www.perimeterinstitute.ca/personal/eschnetter/

Present: Steve, Roland, Yosef, Helvi, Peter, Chris, Zach, Antoni re-run gallery examples * Helvi's group ran the examples before the release, will update the dates on the gallery pages * need to re-run single NS example to use correct parfile suggestions for new improvements to be included in the ET * Zach has a new version of Giraffe written in NRPy * Zach has Fisbone-Moncrief disk intial data thorn * cleaned up versions of Giraffe and IllinoisGRMHD * Peter's self-force code is getting closer to be included * SphericalBSSN should be open sourced by August, maybe before the next meeting * more gallery examples for IllinoisGRMHD, Proca * PreSync is getting closer PreSync: * Steve (and Sam) will work with Zach to add the READ/WRITE directives to NRPy generated codes * currently these declarations are added by hand, ideally they should be derived from the expressions ET meeting at RIT in June * invites to speakers are out * schedule will go up once the science speakers have responded ET meeting at KCL in September * dates: September 2nd - 6th * both school and workshop * website will go up very soon Yours, Roland -- My email is as private as my paper mail. Smoothed Punture thorn - Magnetised Bondi Accretion test
by Jay Vijay Kalinani 01 Apr '19

01 Apr '19

Dear all, My name is Jay V. Kalinani and I am a first year PhD student in Physics at the University of Padova, Italy. I'm currently working with Dr. Riccardo Ciolfi and Prof. Bruno Giacomazzo. I'm trying to run the Magnetised Bondi Accretion test with ET+GRHydro using the par file 'bondiM.par' (attached for your reference). This par file, located in the GRHydro_InitData repository, calls for the activation of the 'SmoothedPuncture' thorn, which I am unable to find in the Einstein Toolkit repositories. I would be grateful if you could kindly let me know where I could locate this thorn in order to use it. Thank you very much. Kind regards, Jay V. Kalinani
