Present: Roland H, Bill G, Peter D, Leonardo R, Atul K, Miguel G, Yosef Z, Roberto DP, Zach E Chair: Roland H, Minutes: Bill G * Any first business Roland, Think about code for inclusion to the ETK for six months from now. Roberto, Working with Frank, and also Lorene and Lorene2. Roland, in the ETK, we want to switch to the more modern version of Lorene, what we call Lorene2, update EOS. Roberto, Main developer of Lorene has his own version, paper with Rezzola and Grandclement. A new public code for initial data of unequal-mass, spinning compact-object binaries L. Jens Papenfort, Samuel D. Tootle, Philippe Grandclément, Elias R. Most, Luciano Rezzolla https://arxiv.org/abs/2103.09911 Roland, Lorene2 Zach was going to check with Josh Faber, RIT, about an issue moving to Lorene2. Need to check the status of that. Roberto, We are using old Lorene. Newest version has many changes, but each seems minor. Tabulated EOS then use Lorene from ETK for generating the initial data. BNS initial data has a reader that does interpolation...to view the start without using ETK file output. Never pushed this back to the Toolkit. Eccentricity reduction is not in Lorene yet. Roland, can we talk to you Roberto to find the differences between Lorene and Lorene2. Roberto, Adding one variable means the reader is no longer working. Roland, If you generate with the old Lorene code initial data, the new one will fail. That is why we have a Lorene2 thorn. Roberto, we should not support binary data for Lorene. Using tabulated EOS even for polytropic, generate the table in Lorene format and use as input. Roland, at the school end of July will be a session on how to generate data with Lorene and read it in. Also the math setup for the initial data solver will be discussed there. Atul K, 0 degree temp tabulated EOS, is there a way to do finite temperature? Roberto, not using barotropic, not including "Raw PE," a 1D table. Temperature dependence is not supported. Not specified by the physics. Also the differential rotation profile, you put in my hand. Roberto, always use tabulated EOS. ETK wants piecewise polytropic. Lorene2 did not have a limit on file size and Roberto is using 5000 points for the table. Roberto, Meudon NS reader modified and working with both versions of the library. Older version links to Lorene, newer version links to Lorene2. Atul, has a document on making NS initial data...will send to the Summer School NS people---using Lorene and not Lorene2. Lorene must specify EOS and there are 20 classes or so. Focusing on a few of the EOS in the document. Roberto, if you want improvement in Lorene we would like that too. Roland, would like to make Lorene2 the default version. Josh Faber at RIT found that in the generating code something fishy between the French comments and the "English" code. The Lorene developers have two versions of the code...one in French and the other in English. * SPEC benchmark contribution [https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues/2470 task] [RH, SB] No discussion. [https://www.einsteintoolkit.org/tools/unanswered.php unanswered question on mailing list] ** Black Hole Excision by Hon Ka Hui needs to be answered. They added some lines to the *.par and then excision seemed to occur. Looks like a problem with the Spherical Surface being registered but not set, so it has an infinite radius. They need to set the number of spherical surfaces, perhaps. ** IllinoisGRMHD and piece-wise polytrope or tabulated EOS. This does not work need to use the development version, should contact Zach and/or Leo. [https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues?status=open&status=new… open tickets sorted by update time] ** #2538, Inclusion of kuibit. Emails from Roland out soon. ** #2536, about cactuscode web server and WWW needed in front. [https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues?status=new&status=open… tickets ready for review] ** #2527, an incorrect param file to ETK would cause Perl warnings too. It should not, this fixes it. * AOB Chairs and Minute takers. Hello Lorenzo, I recall that I obtained something similar to what you are describing, when attempting a regrinding for very small radii of the finest refinement level (let's say a most refinement radius near 5.0). I wasn't able to control precisely this setting and I concluded that it could be related to the number of buffer/ghost zones that are required (of course it also depends on the most refined resolution, though). Adopting greater radii, instead, it seems that I could have better control. I am sorry of not being of any more help and I wonder if someone could add more. Best regards, Federico Cipolletta. a problem met in running the sample code "Binary, inspiraling neutron stars forming a hypermassive neutron star" on Jimmy's own work station
by 白济民 10 Jun '21

10 Jun '21

Hello, I met a problem when running the sample code "Binary, inspiraling neutron stars forming a hypermassive neutron star" in ET's gallery on my own work station and I'm looking forward to your help. It aborts unexpectedly after running a few minutes. The end of the Output-error-file reads as follows: cactus_sim: /home/bai/ET/Cactus/configs/sim/build/Carpet/helpers.cc:275: int Carpet::Abort(const cGH*, int): Assertion `0' failed. Rank 0 with PID 73447 received signal 6 Writing backtrace to nsnstohmns/backtrace.0.txt Aborted (core dumped) I also uploaded the entire error file for clearance. I built the ET using 64 processors by using the following command: simfactory/bin/sim build -j64 --thornlist thornlists/nsnstohmns.th and I ran the simulation using 20 processors by using the following command: ./simfactory/bin/sim create-submit bns_merger /home/bai/ET/Cactus/par/nsnstohmns.par 20 24:0:0 Yours sincerely: Jimmy

Present: Roland H, Maria H, Leonardo W, Steve B, Yosef Z, Zach E, Atul K Chair: Steve B, Minutes: Atul K * SPEC benchmark contribution [https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues/2470] [RH, SB] Nothing new * ET 2021 NA summer school [http://lists.einsteintoolkit.org/pipermail/users/2021-May/007944.html] [RH] Roland - Collecting info from people attending. 1 empty lecture slots - probably going to be used for lightning talk. Roland - Talk abstracts are accepted up until 23/June. Registration (no-abstract) deadline is upto 2 days before the Meeting. Meeting dates 26-30th July. Maria - May not be able to attend, travelling. Atul - Is making a doc compiling the info on LORENE code. Going to share the doc with 5 people involved in the LORENE discussion. Needed in advance to be installed on the servers. Yosef - Do Maria, Bruno, Antonios, Atul need coordination emails? Maria - Going to get things ready by the June 23rd deadline. Roland - Sent emails IDs to Yosef. BlackHoles@Home (http://astro.phys.wvu.edu/bhathome/) Stand alone code independent of ET and Cactus Steve- Mesh refinement technique on BH@H? ZE using their own Mesh refinement code? Zach - Does a lot of stuff.. Like 3 spheres overlap, with smaller cartesian grids included. Interpolation, coordinate transformation, and so on. Steve - Why does it not call Cactus? Zach - Need full control of all memory for running it on PC. Steve - Make BH at home’s Mesh refinement a real driver in Cactus. Not much overhead with Cactus. Zach - Not MPI parallelized. Build system limitations, can't do on Windows or Mac. Zach - Can interest new users as it makes BBH sims more accessible. Steve - ET works on Mac and Windows (WSL), so can make BH@H also work. Steve - There should be documentation for adding drivers on ET. Yosef - Change parameters not possible on Cactus (like mesh refinement)? So that you can stop cactus and restart? Roland - Possible. All thorns free space. Yosef - Cactus refused to restart. Calls terminate and reinitialize. Roland - Shutdown completely. MPI-init needs to be done at the beginning. Can compile with no MPI thorn. Roland and Zach are hacking it currently. Roland - Gabriele Bozzolla proposed to include Kuibit. People interested in having it and to review this? [http://lists.einsteintoolkit.org/pipermail/users/2021-June/007998.html] [ https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues/2538/inclusion-of-kuib… ] Atul - Interested in it and could be a co-reviewer. Roland - More than one reviewer is good. Steve - Interested but can’t commit. Got Kuibit mentioned in the BBH gallery page for starters. * [https://www.einsteintoolkit.org/tools/unanswered.php unanswered question on mailing list] Prasad R. Wants to use PiecewisePolytrope or tabulated EoS with IllinoisGRMHD - Leonardo W may be answering it. HiK - Recon dependency issue. Need to be careful to compare, they have Mag fields code on but with it B =0. They always run with evolve B_vec = yes, but with B = 0. Brings differences in con2prim. Their Par files are at : https://einstein.pr.infn.it/svn/numrel/pub/BNS_2015_work/WorkBNS/ They use PRThorns. If there are large differences in recon methods there might be bugs in recon methods. * [ https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues?status=open&status=new… open tickets sorted by update time] * [ https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues?status=new&status=open… tickets ready for review] ---------------------------- End of Call ---------------------------- Atul Kedia PhD Candidate University of Notre Dame
