GRHydro negative rho
by Nick Olsen 06 Aug '21

06 Aug '21

Hello there I have been learning how to use and working with the Einstein Toolkit for a few months now and I have gotten to a point where I wanted to implement a photon gas with (locally) negative rho as part of my research, following a paper written by one of my supervisor's PhD students. While looking into it I found that GRHydro automatically discards negative values of rho and replaces them with rho_abs_min, and I can't set rho_ans_min to a negative value because they are ignored according to the documentation. I was wondering if there is a way to set rho_abs_min to be negative without it being ignored, or a way to circumvent the check for negative values of rho somehow to allow for negative values. I have some experience with rewriting thorns for my own purposes but GRHydro isn't as simple as the thorns I've been changing. Thanks, Nicholas Olsen, University of Waterloo

Hello all, I am trying to match up reviewers who volunteered to the various projects that were discussed, and in Kuibit's case already proposed, for inclusion and the respective project's trac tickets. If you stepped forward to volunteer to review kuibit then please indicate so on https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues/2538/inclusion-of-kuib… Yours, Roland -- My email is as private as my paper mail. I therefore support encrypting and signing email messages. Get my PGP key from http://pgp.mit.edu .

North American Einstein Toolkit summer school recap
by workshop＠einsteintoolkit.org 04 Aug '21

04 Aug '21

Hello all, We had very successful summer school in the week of July 26h to 30th. I big Thank you! to all who attended and presented. At peak there were over 130 concurrent attendees and Zoom counts 223 unique names, with some attendees chosing to attend only some sessions. Looking back at the school program the lectures and tutorials showcased the breadth of topics that are addressed by the Einstein Toolkit. In a total of 15 lighning talks Einstein Toolkit users presented results of interest to community and showcased their work to strike up collaborations and conversations. Presentations on software outoside of the Einstein Toolkit, but of interest provided insight into areas of growth for the toolkit. Finally the "Future of the Einstein Toolkit" seesion on Friday provided a venue for all attendees to discuss their plans and expectations for the toolkit in the future. If you are interested in hearing more about the toolkit join the Einstein Toolkit user community: http://lists.einsteintoolkit.org/mailman/listinfo/users or contribute at the weekly Einstein Toolkit Zoom calls each Thursday at 9:00AM US Central time https://docs.einsteintoolkit.org/et-docs/Main_Page#Weekly_Users_Call or via the Einstein Toolkit users mailing list: http://lists.einsteintoolkit.org/mailman/listinfo/users All available recordings and slides are now uploaded to the respective talk pages on https://einsteintoolkit.github.io/et2021uiuc/program.html and collected in a YouTube playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLRxi-yB7cTGfIPyQLSNulydOAPSPHN2Hc Yours, the organizers

Fw: An IPAM program that may be of interest to you!
by Hamilton, Maria 04 Aug '21

From: Crane, Ruth <ruth_crane(a)icerm.brown.edu> Sent: Friday, May 21, 2021 4:34 PM To: Ruth Crane <ruth_crane(a)icerm.brown.edu> Cc: Christian Ratsch <cratsch(a)math.ucla.edu>; Sigal Gottlieb <sigal_gottlieb(a)icerm.brown.edu> Subject: An IPAM program that may be of interest to you! IPAM is hosting a long program this fall that is scientifically very close to ICERM's 2020 program on “Advances in Computational Relativity<https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Ficerm.bro…>”. We are very happy to share the details with you. Read on... ***** Dear all, The Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IPAM) is planning a long program on “Mathematical and Computational Challenges in the Era of Gravitational Wave Astronomy”. It will be held at IPAM between September 13 and December 17, 2021. As part of this long program, many people stay at IPAM as core participants for the duration of the program. We still have space for additional core participants. We thought that you might be interested in this program. In addition, it would be great if you could help us advertise this program to people who might be interested to come. We are looking for senior as well as junior participants. More information including an application link can be found at: http://www.ipam.ucla.edu/programs/long-programs/mathematical-and-computatio…<https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ipam.u…> A word about Covid-19: At this point we expect that the program will be held in-person at IPAM. However, we are monitoring the Covid-19 situation closely, and will adapt the format of the program, if necessary. We expect that online participation will be an option for the individual workshops of the program. init_3_timelevels and nans on past timelevels
by Yosef Zlochower 04 Aug '21

04 Aug '21

Hi, I have been running into an issue where I when I interpolate an evolved function I get nans even though there are no nans on the gridfunction itself. The nans appear to arise when the past timelevels (at iteration 0) are initialized by init_3_timelevels and occur near the buffer regions. As the evolution proceeds, these bad past timelevels are overwritten with seemingly good data. Is this the expected behavior of init_3_timelevels? Also, I have been trying to use visit to see what is going on. I used CarpetIOHDF5::output_all_timelevels = true, and I think this means that the past timelevels show up as different components of the same gridfunction although I haven't been able to determine how the component number is related to the actual components of the grid and the different timelevels. modifying submit scripts after build
by Tomas Andrade 03 Aug '21

03 Aug '21

Hi, I'm using ETK on a cluster with Linux Centos7. I was able to build it successfully, and now I need to change the submit script located in Cactus/simfactory/mdb/submitscripts. I've edited the file without building again, but it doesn't seem to have any effect. Do I need to rebuild after editing the .sub file? thank you!
