FunHPC work day postponed
by Erik Schnetter 03 Nov '16

03 Nov '16

I caught a cold and am not feeling too well. We will need to postpone the FunHPC work day planned for tomorrow. I realize that this is the second day that the FunHPC work day is being postponed. I'm sorry about this -- I'm actually quite excited that so many others are interested in this approach. A more flexible multi-threading in Cactus has the potential for huge performance benefits. I hope we can re-schedule for some time next week. I've cleaned up the Cactus and Einstein Toolkit branches that support FunHPC, but a respective wiki page is not yet ready. -erik -- Erik Schnetter <schnetter(a)gmail.com> http://www.perimeterinstitute.ca/personal/eschnetter/

Hi, Present were Eloisa, Erik, Frank, Josh, Harry (?) and the Skeletor (Steve). Please go through the list of tickets for the upcoming release und tickets in review state to see where you can help: https://trac.einsteintoolkit.org/query?status=!closed&milestone=ET_2016_11&… https://trac.einsteintoolkit.org/query?status=review&col=id&col=summary&col… The FunHPC work-day will be held Friday this week (Nov 4th). We will use Google Hangouts, with an URL to be announced. We will also test 'mumble': https://wiki.mumble.info/wiki/Main_Page If you are interested, it might be best if you could install the client already before the meeting. Windows/Mac/Linux/Android/IOS clients exist and should all be available as respective packages. Frank

Einstein Toolkit Meeting Reminder

Hello, Please consider joining the weekly Einstein Toolkit phone call at 9:30 am US central time on Mondays. As usual, you can find instructions how to join on the following web site: http://einsteintoolkit.org/community/support/ We use a Google hangout, with the URL: https://hangouts.google.com/call/5xt7voshalqmdcztr4zhfeox2ia Remember that time was changed especially in parts of Europe, so this meeting might be at a different time than usual for you. Also, if you are interested in FunHPC and didn't fill in the Doodle poll yet, please do so: http://doodle.com/poll/q7243awwn36vf6v5 So far it looks like Fri 4th might be a good option, but that's with not too many responses yet. Einstein Toolkit Meeting Minutes

Present: Frank, Steve, Zach, Roberto, Ian We had to use a new google hangout link. For some reason the old link didn't work for anyone anymore. Frank is still looking into alternatives, but was too busy in the last few weeks to follow up. Jenkins was down, but thanks for Ian is now alive again. piraha_everywhere will not go into the next release, because more test-time would be required for such a change than is left. Zach proposes to include hydro-analysis thorns. If you are interested to review those (quickly), and have time: please contact him. Llama might still go into this release, but would still require the necessary documentation / tests. Remember to enter the (new) doodle poll for FunHPC, if you are interested: http://doodle.com/poll/q7243awwn36vf6v5 If you are in Europe, remember that you might change to winter time next weekend, which would mean a different time for next week's ET call. Getting the maximum number of refinement levels
by Ian Hinder 21 Oct '16

21 Oct '16

Hi, Is there an "official" way for a thorn to get the maximum number of refinement levels? There is a maxreflevels in carpet_public.hh, but it is disabled. There is no aliased Carpet function to find this either. -- Ian Hinder http://members.aei.mpg.de/ianhin

A new Doodle poll for a new date is up, please add yourself if you are interested: http://doodle.com/poll/q7243awwn36vf6v5 With a new release coming up everyone is currently encouraged to point out even small things(tickets) they want to get fixed before things are frozen. If you have some of those, please mark them using the 'ET_2016_11' milestone. Also, please help resolving those that are marked in this way. It was also noted that the simfactory web pages are out of date, but at least the download-information will be fixed by Frank. The question of the future of Simfactory was raised as well, but with several both power users and developers not present this was postponed. Frank

meeting minutes for 2016-10-10
by Roland Haas 10 Oct '16

Present: Frank, Josh, Vassili, Steve, Gabrielle, Yosef, Roland, Ian, Harris Markakis, Peter First ET work day: * doodle poll (http://doodle.com/poll/72m342w6yqgd8u5g) picks Wednesday Oct 19th 8am Central * will use hangout for that * try "mumble" (https://wiki.mumble.info/wiki/Main_Page) as well with larger user pool * leave agenda to organizer (Erik), but want to include FunHPC and possibly SimulationIO * rule: whoever participates has to provide at least one commit after that day * will have multiple independent tasks piraha everywhere: * Roland asks that documentation be physically included so that there is no danger of the (copy of the) code in the flesh and the documentation becoming out of sync * investigate when the .peg files and when the C code embedded grammar are used and decide on only one to be the authorative one (Roland would prefer the .peg files and them to be compiled into the code). Yours, Roland -- My email is as private as my paper mail. I therefore support encrypting and signing email messages. Get my PGP key from http://keys.gnupg.net.
