meeting minutes for 2025-04-10
by Roland Haas 10 Apr '25

10 Apr '25

Present: Roland, Peter, Steve, Zach, Deborah, Johnny, Keith, Leo ET release ========== * no updates on Z4c * Deborah is working through Lucas' comments on CCE * Zach is reviewing FLRWSolver * Peter will start reviewing ET summer school ================ * no updates yet Other items =========== * Zach pointed out that AHFinderDirect's docs and paper all suggest to use Hermite interpolation, but the ET mostly uses Lagrange. Zach finds faster horizon finding times with Hermite, possibly due to less noise due to the better interpolator Yours, Roland -- My email is as private as my paper mail. 2025 Registration opens for North American Einstein Toolkit School and Workshop
by Bing-Jyun Tsao 03 Apr '25

03 Apr '25

Dear all, The registration for the North American Einstein Toolkit workshop is now open until May 31, 2025. The workshop will be held at the University of Texas at Austin from June 09 - 13. The link to the external registration form can be found on the event website: https://indico.global/event/14071/page/4351-registration If you would like to apply for travel support, please register before April 30, 2025 for full consideration. The workshop is an opportunity for researchers and students to learn about the Einstein Toolkit (*https://einsteintoolkit.org/* <https://einsteintoolkit.org/>), a community-driven software platform of core computational tools to advance and support research in relativistic astrophysics and gravitational physics. The workshop will offer a mixture of talks and tutorials. The tutorials provide an opportunity for new users to become familiar with the Einstein Toolkit cyberinfrastructure. The talks are aimed at highlighting exciting science using the tools of numerical relativity, in particular, the Einstein Toolkit. At the end of the workshop, there will be a broad discussion on future directions of the Einstein Toolkit. GW150914 par file without Llama?
by Rhiannon Silva 02 Apr '25

02 Apr '25

Hi, I need a parameter file similar to the GW150914 binary black hole example but without the Llama patches. Does anyone already have something like that I could use? If not, would it be a good idea for me to start from the qc0-mclachlan example and adapt that to my needs? It seems like that might be easier than trying to work backward from GW150914.par? Is there anything old/outdated in the qc0-mclachlan example which I should be aware of? Also, can anyone tell me why qc0-mclachlan uses 3 refinement centres (CarpetRegrid2::num_centres = 3) and not 2 as in GW150914? Thanks, Rhiannon.

Building the Einstein Toolkit in MN5: problem with SSHT
by Samuel Gómez Gómez 28 Mar '25

28 Mar '25

Hi again. While compiling the toolkit on the Marenostrum 5 cluster, I encountered the error shown in the attached screenshot. The build process seems to attempt downloading the SSHT thorn from the internet, but this cluster does not have an internet connection. I have tried compiling it manually and adding the path, but the package still insists on downloading it online. I would appreciate any help. Thanks!
