Pointer to Einstein Toolkit on main Cactus page
by Erik Schnetter 15 Nov '10

15 Nov '10

The main Cactus web page could have a prominent pointer to the Einstein Toolkit. Both the main page and the Download section have pointers to the WaveToy Demo; I think another pointer to the Einstein Toolkit would work well there. -erik -- Erik Schnetter <schnetter(a)cct.lsu.edu> http://www.cct.lsu.edu/~eschnett/

Meeting reminder
by Frank Loeffler 14 Nov '10

14 Nov '10

Hi, This is a reminder about the weekly ET phone call on Monday, Nov 15th, at 10am central US time. I will be out of town, but hope to be able to call in (Bruno: please open the call if I cannot). The main topic will be the release, which is over-due and should happen this week. On Thu, Nov 11, 2010 at 06:13:32PM -0500, Roland Haas wrote: > * Testsuites > ** AHFinderDirect discrepancy between different numbers of > processors still persists, see emails on the mailing list for > details > ** Ian mentioned that he sees processor number dependencies in > Multipole as well, and Peter saw some differences that seem to stem > from the interpolator. > ** looking for testsuite for AEILocalInterp (and/or the > interpolation drivers) I would like to make this a blocker from what I read on the mailing list. Pugh might not be used by the majority of the users, but the interpolator and AHFinderDirect have to work with it. I will not have the time to look into this. Can please someone continue to look at it, and finish it such that we can provide correct and passing testsuites? > ** McLachlan differences: Ian wanted look into them > ** GRHydro: still needs work, possibly on PPM Since the release is now more and more holding up general work, I tend to think we should release even if this is not fixed yet, and mention it in the notes. Obviously, it would be even better if we can. Information how to call in can be found here: http://einsteintoolkit.org/info/support/ Frank Loeffler

trac spam
by Frank Loeffler 12 Nov '10

12 Nov '10

Hi, Spam started to appear in the ET bug tracker, so we installed a spam-filter plugin. We didn't take the time to configure it in a nice way yet, and it doesn't support captchas as it is now. Please let us know if you have problems because of this. The last thing we want is people not using it because of a lot of false positives. thanks, Frank Loeffler

Phone Call Mon, Nov 8th
by Frank Loeffler 09 Nov '10

09 Nov '10

Hi, Bruno Mundim will chair next weeks phone call because I will be traveling at that time. We do have a release to finish and I wouldn't like to wait for another week for that to happen - besides I will be traveling next week as well (but might be able to call in). The call will, as usual, happen at 10am central US time (now winter time). Details about how to connect are available at http://einsteintoolkit.org/info/support/ . The next release of the Einstein Toolkit will be the Nr. 1 item on the agenda of the next call tomorrow. We should all try to concentrate for a moment on the release, get it out of the door, to then be able to go on with our usual great science without this on the back of our minds. However, first we need to look at a few outstanding issues: 1) Testsuites A lot has been done over the course of last week, and I would like to thank all involved people. A few issues remain however: 1a) Most AHFinderDirect testsuites fail on 2 processes. This is not new. This has been the same for last release. However, in contrast to some other thorns, AHFinderDirect is used by almost every group, in production simulations. We should really figure out what goes wrong here. Even more severe: preliminary tests suggest that this could be connected to the interpolator, which would make matters only worse if it turns out to be true. 1b) Some GRHydro testsuites (especially involving ppm) fail on some machines. This is possibly simply connected to numerical errors. The deviations are small, while the default relative tolerance for con2prim is higher than that. Before cranking up the tolerances for the testsuites we should be sure about that though. 1c) McLachlan testsuites fail on the (potentially) three largest machines: ranger, kraken and bluedrop, but pass everywhere else. 1d) WeylScal4/teukolsky fails. The origin of this is known and simply a bug in the testsuite setup itself. Either we find time to correct this (is Roland still on it?), or we drop the testsuite. I ordered the list above by my personal feeling of importance. We could release with all of them unfixed (except 1d), since nothing of this is new, but I would really prefer otherwise. Please concentrate on the testsuites until Wednesday, so that we can prepare the release for the end of the week. 2) Bruno did some work on the web page and documentation and will probably report about the progress there. 3) The (short) release text is not yet on the wiki, but some of the details in the long text have been added. Please expand this with details of changes since the last release. Frank Loeffler

Thorn citations
by Erik Schnetter 08 Nov '10

08 Nov '10

As you may know, have been discussing the Einstein Toolkit citation policy recently. The current consensus seems to be that each component of the Einstein Toolkit can have both "required" and "suggested" citations. The details of this are discussed elsewhere; here I want to begin to compile the official list for our components. I have created a bibtex file einsteintoolkit.bib and placed it near our standard thorn list, i.e. into < https://svn.einsteintoolkit.org/manifest/trunk>. This is a preliminary list only (which is why it is only available in the development version of the Einstein Toolkit). Please have a look and correct if necessary, or suggest improvements. To simplify things I went a purely-bibtex way: In addition to the standard bibtex keys there are two new ones, required-for and suggested-for. Both contain space-separated lists of Arrangement/Thorn names, specifying for which thorns this particular publication is either required or suggested. Standard bibtex tools can then be used to extract the set of publications that is required or suggested for a particular thorn. -erik -- Erik Schnetter <schnetter(a)cct.lsu.edu> http://www.cct.lsu.edu/~eschnett/

I put this page up I think before we decided to primarily use SimFactory, so maybe should change it now to just list important machines that are supported through SimFactory and not bother about linking to config files but put a better link to SimFactory. Does this mean that the testsuite results were wrong all along, and now have to be regenerated? Before this fix, the test_ADM_2 test passed on 1 but not 2 processes, and after the fix it fails on both. What other codes would have been affected? For example, BSSN_MoL? Again I repeat my call for correctness tests in addition to regression tests... -- Ian Hinder ian.hinder(a)aei.mpg.de
