patch for EinsteinAnalysis/AHFinderDirect
by Bruno Giacomazzo 09 Aug '10

09 Aug '10

Hi, the attached patch allows the possibility to schedule AHFinderDirect also at POSTPOSTINITIAL by adding the parameter run_at_CCTK_POSTPOSTINITIAL (default equals to false). I have used it to be sure that an AH was found after initial data computation and before the last call to the Con2Prim routine of Whisky before evolution was started (in order to have hydro variables properly excised before the beginning of the evolution). Meeting minutes
by Roland Haas 09 Aug '10

09 Aug '10

Meeting minutes: Present were: Tanja, Roland, Frank, Erik, Christian, Josh, Bruno * EOS_Omni: ** needs to be tested in production runs ** before inclusion, add code to allow EOS model to be specified as a string in *parameter files* * no objections to current drafts for citation policy and contribution procedure. Erik will (has) post(ed) an updated version of the contribution guidelines. * Carpet workshop program: 1-2 days of internal of Carpet then small groups can try to improve aspects of Carpet. Need some outline for participants that are not going to join for the whole workshop. * no progress in MHD Yours, Roland -- My email is as private as my paper mail. I therefore support encrypting and signing email messages. Get my PGP key from http://keys.gnupg.net.

Meeting reminder
by Frank Loeffler 09 Aug '10

09 Aug '10

Hi, this is a short reminder about the regular EinsteinToolkit phone call later today (at 10am CDT). Instructions how to join the call can be found here: http://einsteintoolkit.org/info/support/ Gab will not be able to call in, but I don't know of other planned absences so far. The main points will be to finalize the discussions about the citation and inclusion of new ET components issues, and a decision whether to include EOS_Omni (maybe renaming it?) and use it as main EOS interface. Checkout broken
by Erik Schnetter 05 Aug '10

05 Aug '10

As Ian Hinder just found out, the command $ ./GetComponents -a https://svn.einsteintoolkit.org/manifest/branches/ET_2010_06/einsteintoolki… Couldn't download https://svn.einsteintoolkit.org/manifest/branches/ET_2010_06/einsteintoolki… correctly. to checkout the manifest doesn't work. It used to work just a few days ago. Could someone currently at LSU (I'm at TG'10 in Pittsburgh) have a look? -erik -- Erik Schnetter <schnetter(a)cct.lsu.edu> http://www.cct.lsu.edu/~eschnett/

Tmunu in HydroBase
by Frank Loeffler 04 Aug '10

04 Aug '10

Hi, So far HydroBase only defines the typical primitive hydro variables (and more), but it doesn't use them to set Tmunu. This is currently done in GRHydro. Now, setting Tmunu only requires the primitive variables, so it could go into HydroBase (with a parameter to turn it off). One application of this would be that it would be possible to have parameter files only calculating initial data, but also (correctly) calculating their constraints, without an active evolution thorn. On the 'downside' this would introduce a dependency of HydroBase on TmunuBase, even with a parameter to turn it off. I don't think anyone would not use HydroBase without TmunuBase in the foreseeable future though. What are the opinions about the proposal to move setting Tmunu from GRHydro to HydroBase? Frank

Christian The enclosed patch may help debug SetMask_SphericalSurface. Carpet developer workshop at RIT on Aug 23-25
by Bruno Coutinho Mundim 02 Aug '10

02 Aug '10

Dear Colleagues, We would like to invite you to attend a Carpet developer workshop to be hosted by the Center for Computational Relativity and Gravitation at the Rochester Institute of Technology on August 23th, 24th and 25th (2010). This workshop is aimed at experienced Carpet users that want to gain further expertise on the internal workings of the Carpet driver, and, thereby, to be able to contribute to the infrastructure development. This workshop will be led by Erik Schnetter, the main architect for the Carpet AMR infrastructure, and will count with the presence of an HPC specialist. One important goal of this workshop will be to discuss and implement ways to improve the performance for Cactus-based applications for current and future high-end petascale architectures. Due to space limitations, we encourage you to contact the organizers as soon as possible to register your presence. Sincerely, The organizers: Manuela Campanelli (manuela(a)astro.rit.edu) Bruno C. Mundim (bcmsma(a)astro.rit.edu) Erik Schnetter (schnetter(a)cct.lsu.edu)

Hi, this is a short reminder about the regular EinsteinToolkit phone call later today (at 10am CDT, in about 15 minutes). Instructions how to join the call can be found here: http://einsteintoolkit.org/info/support/ I don't expect this to be a long meeting, also due to the expected absence of a couple of people because of the TeraGrid conference.
