New MPI config designation, specifying libs?
by Scott Hawley 08 Aug '12

08 Aug '12

Hi. Apparently the build system is looking for -lmpi_cxx, which does not exist on Nautilus. instead it is -lmpi++. I tried setting MPI_LIBS directly in my options file, but it didn't remove the reference. See error at bottom of this message. % cat ~/options.nautilus.gnu | grep -i MPI CPPFLAGS = -LMPICH_IGNORE_CXX_SEEK MPI_DIR = /opt/sgi/mpt/mpt-2.04/ MPI_LIBS = mpi mpi++ The only place this reference seems to be is.. % grep -r mpi_cxx configs/etk/ configs/etk/bindings/Configuration/Capabilities/make.MPI.defn:MPI_LIBS = mpi mpi_cxx (it's not in my environment... % env | /bin/grep mpi % ) How to fix this? Thanks, Scott make etk SILENT=no ... ________________________________________________________________________ Creating cactus_etk in /nics/c/home/hawleys/Cactus/exe from CactusArchive/ADM meeting minutes

Present were: Roland, Frank, Yosef, Eloisa, Josh, Tanja, Peter, Bruno ExternalLibraries/MPI: * Yosef suggested a dummy MPI thorn to be created in Lovelace so that it easy to have a thorn compile with both releases ET fall workshop: * location: RIT * time: week of Oct 22nd, please write to mailing list if this does not work for you * duration: to-be-discussed (currently: Mo-Fri) * topics: to-be-decided. Starting point for discussion: ** efficiency/scaling ** scheduler improvements, (reads/writes, task based scheduling, simplifying time/refinement level handling) ** generic elliptic solver * Frank will create a wiki page for the meeting HDF5 in test suites: * Yosef sugests (and there was no loud objection) that having support via h5diff would be a good thing * possibly have student at LSU look into interfacing h5diff with the test suite perl scripts * Cactus compiles h5diff when it compiles HDF5, otherwise HDF5 has to provide a path to h5diff * previous discussion on HDF5 in testsuites is here: https://trac.einsteintoolkit.org/ticket/808 * CCE output file corruption after recovery: * Yosef has added more warning messages * error seems to be system dependent Yours, Roland

Hi, I did not receive the attachment. I checked the parameter and I use the default values which for me are: BOOLEAN truncate_files "Truncate existing output files from previous runs (except when recovering) ?" STEERABLE = ALWAYS { } "yes" BOOLEAN truncate_files_after_recovering "Truncate existing output files after recovering ?" STEERABLE = RECOVER { } "no" which should be ok, according to the description. Einstein Toolkit Meeting
by Frank Loeffler 05 Aug '12

05 Aug '12

Hi Please consider joining the weekly Einstein Toolkit phone call at 10 am US central time on Mondays. As usual, you can find instructions how to join on the following web site: http://einsteintoolkit.org/community/support/ I short: the number is (+1) 225-578-4942 or (+1) 866-573-0359 and the conference id is 118682#. The problems with MPI might again be topic of discussion. The fall workshop should be planned in more detail now to leave some time for travel arrangements. As always: please add whatever you like to this list. Activity last week: 17 issues changed and still open, 11 issues closed, e.g.: - Simfactory failed on lonestar - PITTNullCode received updates - added new multirate RK schemes to MoL - outstanding GRHydro patches from Zelmani have all (?) been applied Frank Loeffler

'Ambiguous' g++ collisions on isnan (cmath), -std=gnu++0x

Hi. The following is a well-documented collision that occurs with the cmath header. The fixes I've seen around the 'net all involve modifying the source and putting in #define statements. But the code in question isn't mine. Is there a "-f_____" compiler flag I set instead? Hello, CCTK_ReductionArrayHandle is used in several thorns but it is not described in the ReferenceManual. Is it (still) supported? How is it different from CCTK_LocalArrayReductionHandle? Cheers, Luca

Present were: Tanja, Roland, Steve, Philipp, Erik, Yosef, Josh, Bruno ExternalLibraries/MPI: * Yosef suggested a dummy MPI thorn to be created in Lovelace so that it easy to have a thorn compile with both releases * alternatively it was suggested to have the MPI using thorn only have "OPTIONAL MPI" * currently not all simfactory option lists are updated for MPI in ExternalLibraries * will use this to sound out who is still using them (by tracking who reports failed compiles) * will announce that unused option list will be retired, then retire them PITTNullCode: * Yosef will read through PITTNullCode patches. * will add code to CCE extraction routines to mimic what CactusIO IO thorns do * Update: Yosef has approved of them, and they have been (eventually, after some hickups) pushed Volunteers needed for: ExternalLibraries: * ensure that all libraries exclude the same list of system libraries (that eg. HDF5 does) ET webpage: * list of publications using ET (http://einsteintoolkit.org/publications/) is out of date * would like either automated system to collect papers based on whether the reference the ET paper or that extracts specially tagged entries from master bibtext file at https://svn.einsteintoolkit.org/manifest/trunk/einsteintoolkit.bib * poll authors regularly (3months interval) to report new papers on the users list * we have a list of all Cactus-using papers in the CIGR renewal grant proposal (the citeUS entries). See http://www.tapir.caltech.edu/~rhaas/cactususers.bib * need volunteer to collect information, produce web-page Yours, Roland

CarpetLib: compile error with commstate.hh
by Scott Hawley 02 Aug '12

Hi, I just did a fresh checkout of the development version, and I'm still having trouble with the comstate.hh file. I'm using -std=gnu++0x. (It's the 4.3 version of the compiler, so gnu++0x should be appropriate; std=gnu++11 began with version 4.7). How might one fix this? Thanks. make SILENT=no ... hdf5 output for testsuites
by Yosef Zlochower 01 Aug '12

01 Aug '12

I was thinking about how to generate better testsuite for the CCE code, in particular, SphericalHarmonicDecomp thorn. The code generates an hdf5 file with coefficients for a Chebyshev/spherical harmonic expansions of the metric functions. Ideally, I would like to test that this hdf5 has the correct data. I could have the thorn also produce ascii output, but it seems to be a stronger test to examine the hdf5 file itself. Would it be possible to do this as an extension to the testsuite mechanism? It seems like the h5diff (with the -d or -p option) program could be used for the comparison itself. -- Dr. Yosef Zlochower Center for Computational Relativity and Gravitation Assistant Professor School of Mathematical Sciences Rochester Institute of Technology 85 Lomb Memorial Drive Rochester, NY 14623 Office:74-2067 Phone: +1 585-475-6103 yosef(a)astro.rit.edu CONFIDENTIALITY NOTE: The information transmitted, including attachments, is intended only for the person(s) or entity to which it is addressed and may contain confidential and/or privileged material. Were the changes for truncate lost. The patches you had before also modified the code with lines like truncate = (IO_TruncateOutputFiles(cctkGH) .ne. 0) .and. first_time <<<<<<< .mine call NullDecomp_WriteCoefRadiusFile('nullgridJ_wt', truncate, 2, lmax, JSphCoeff, cctk_time, null_rb(Nradial)) ======= call NullDecomp_WriteCoefRadiusFile('nullgridU_wt', cctk_iteration.eq.0, 1, lmax, USphCoeff, cctk_time, null_rb(Nradial)) >>>>>>> .r10 \On 07/31/2012 04:06 PM, rhaas(a)tapir.caltech.edu wrote: > User: rhaas > Date: 2012/07/31 03:06 PM > > Modified: > /trunk/ > param.ccl > /trunk/src/ > wt_SphHarmDecomp.F90 > > Log: > NullSHRExtract: make more parameters steerable, change name of output files > > From: Nick Taylor > > File Changes: > > Directory: /trunk/src/ > ====================== > > File [modified]: wt_SphHarmDecomp.F90 > Delta lines: +4 -4 > =================================================================== > --- trunk/src/wt_SphHarmDecomp.F90 2012-05-28 22:21:25 UTC (rev 9) > +++ trunk/src/wt_SphHarmDecomp.F90 2012-07-31 20:06:39 UTC (rev 10) > @@ -90,13 +90,13 @@ > > !
