Carpet now moved to bitbucket, which is reflected in the current thornlist. Tickets: - #1674: OpenBLAS vs. BLAS (as bundled BLAS implementation) - Atlas ect. would still be recognized and used if found - Would replace BLAS and LAPACK thorns - #1676: CT_MultiLevel to be added to ET? - #1276: Trouble with intel compiler and 'restrict' again. Can somebody try with intel 15? Proposed schedule for fall release (2 weeks+ freeze): - Nov 10: "small" freeze (no major additions, stricter reviews) - Nov 24: freeze until release as soon after that as possible Even before: start testing especially production machines and environments: simfactory configurations might need updating, tests should pass. Carpet moves to Bitbucket

As discussed previously, Carpet's git repository is moving to Bitbucket. At the same time, its repository structure changes so that Carpet will consist of a single arrangement only. The new Bitbucket repository with the new directory structure exists. If Erik agrees, I would suggest to make this move as soon as possible. The HDF5 thorn will in the future build (and require) the Fortran bindings for HDF5, but not the C++ bindings. Rationale is that some thorns (outside of the ET) seem to use them, and they are usually provided by the system libraries as well. Both does not seem to hold for the C++ bindings (nothing seems to use them, and they are typically not provided by system-installs of HDF5). Frank Loeffler

Jenkins seems to be currently building every hour - is this intended? Apart from ticket we already discussed about last week: - Bruno Giocomazzo reports that the most recent Carpet plugin for visit gives him trouble. Who can help? (#1663) - #980: remove all (most?) flesh-library mechanisms from the flesh, leaving only some meaningful error messages pointing users in the right direction (thorns). Problem with that approach: some environment variable might be "collide" with other installed stuff. - CarpetIOHDF5, DISTRIB=CONSTANT and checkpoint issues (#1664) - Considering bitbucket pull request feature - instead of trac - instead of trac patches (but still as trac issues) - in addition to trac Frank Loeffler

PARAMCHECK and non fatal but inefficient parameter choices

I have a situation where the parameter choice is valid and the result of the simulation should be identical with or without the parameter set (assuming not bugs...), however setting the parameter is likely going to make the simulation slower. Im this particular case the parameter is CarpetLib::use_higher_order_restriction when used for a run with Carpet::refinement_centering = "vertex". In that case restriction is just a copy operation and independent of use_higher_order_restriction, for cell-centered runs this is not true anymore and this is the situation that use_higher_order_restriction was implemented for. However there is code in Carpet/Evolve.cc that calls POSTREGRID multiple times if use_higher_order_restriction is set (it has to in order to get symmetry, outer boundaries and also ghost zones right). For vertex centering nothing should happen (since there is a second call to POSTRESTRICT after all restriction is done). Options are: * do nothing since these parameters are perfectly valid if slow * warn with level CCTK_WARN_COMPLAIN ("the user should know about this but the problem is not terribly surprising") * warn with level CCTK_WARN_ALERT ("the results of this run will be wrong, and this will surprise the user, but we can still continue the run") * abort since the user most likely did not want to set the parameter Note that current practise in most code seems to be to use CCTK_WARN_COMPLAIN (Level 1) for warnings about situations that do not invalidate the result and CCTK_WARN_ABORT (Level 0) for anything that invalidates results, ie. we do not adhere to the meaning of the levels documented in src/include/cctk_WarnLevel.h . GRHydro cleanup

I created a pull request for a small cleanup of the build requirements of GRHydro. (1) Was anybody notified about this new pull request? (2) Can (should?) this be integrated with TRAC? Or should we switch to using Bitbucket's issue tracker? (3) Could someone have a look and then "push the button"? Jenkins temporarily offline

Hi all, The Jenkins automated build and test system which runs the tests for the Einstein Toolkit will be offline for a period starting today, while the machine it is running on is physically relocated to a new building. I hope to complete the relocation and bring the system back online today, although it may end up taking a bit longer. I will send an update once the system is back online. Regards, Barry
