Problem with build after git pull

Today I did a git pull and tried to build ET dev. It crashed with references to hdf5 as is shown in the pastebin: http://pastebin.com/EdqqhdE0 . Note that I am using the HDF5_DIR = BUILD option and have checked that mpi and gcc are compatible (the versions from macports). I have removed hdf5 from active ports some time ago. So can developers please let me know what might be going on? Thanks very much. Comer

Kranc docs/papers updated?

I am wanting to write a thorn using Kranc. I have the two papers 0404023 and 0411063 and am wondering whether the material therein is compatible with say Hilbert? Also, are there other docs that are not on gr-qc which would be useful to read? Or does one just begin by looking at the examples and then try to craft a thorn? Thanks. Comer

Abort on unexpected process or thread configuration

Hi all, Carpet supports environment variables CACTUS_NUM_PROCS CACTUS_NUM_THREADS which, if set, indicate the number of MPI processes and the number of threads per process that were expected. Carpet uses these to check that the actual number of processes started, and the actual number of threads, are correct, since it is very easy to get these wrong due to interactions with scheduling systems, different MPI implementations, different command-line options etc. If the variables are unset, Carpet does nothing. However, if they have been set, Carpet currently prints a warning if there is a mismatch. I think, and Erik agrees, that this should instead be a fatal error which aborts the simulation on startup. If you use simfactory, it often (depending on the machine runscript) sets these variables. If it is getting it wrong for a particular machine, the number of threads and processes could be wrong, which usually leads to a severe performance penalty which might go unnoticed if you don't check carefully. I will make this change in Carpet in the development version, and this might lead to simulations aborting on startup if the configuration is wrong. In that case, the configuration, usually in the machine run script, should be fixed. Cartoon2D and Carpet

Hello, I have a question about CactusNumerical/Cartoon2D. In the source file ApplyCartoon.c, there is a condition for the grid setup: if(cctk_gsh[1] != 2*cctk_nghostzones[1]+1) { CCTK_WARN(0, "Grid size in y direction inappropriate."); } As far as I could tell, this is generally violated in multilevel Carpet (CarpetRegrid2) runs, with standard settings that determine the minimum extension of the refined grids, like Carpet::use_buffer_zones = yes mol::ode_method = rk4 That condition for Cartoon2D can be achieved on the coarsest level by setting CoordBase::ymax equal to the spacing dy and CoordBase::ymin equal to -dy. But it cannot be set for refined levels, because CarpetRegrid2 adds as many points as required for the buffer zones. Indeed, Carpet adds enough buffer points for its own purposes that Cartoon2D seems to work fine. Should the above condition be changed to if(cctk_gsh[1] >= 2*cctk_nghostzones[1]+1) ? Yours, Luca

ET on SPARC system.

Hello, I am new user of ET. Recently a get access to FUJITSU Supercomputer PRIMEHPC FX100. FX100, with high performance processors SPARC64 XIfx. FX100 have sparc environment. Any one have an experience to work with SPARC64 system? I would be very appreciated for any related information and/or config files. Thank you in advance, Maxim Barkov
