GW150914 example, noisy Psi4 waveforms
by Christian D. Ott 18 Jun '17

18 Jun '17

Hi All, I have been experimenting with the GW150914 par file (Thanks for putting it together!), which uses Llama multipatch (MP) with McLachlan (ML) and, of course, Carpet AMR in the interior Cartesian patch, tracking the punctures. I'm noticing three things when looking at Psi4 l2,m2 waveforms (and this is largely independent of extraction radius): (1) The waveforms have high-frequency wiggles that similar pure-AMR simulations do not show. I don't have a pure AMR simulation for GW150914, but am comparing with an 8-orbit, equal mass, non-spinnning case. I can run GW150914 with pure AMR if need be. (2) The high-frequency wiggles get *worse* if I decrease the finite differencing order from 8th to 4th order. (3) This appears to be a wave amplitude-dependent 'feature', since the wiggles are much less pronounced once the waves reach higher amplitudes. I'm attaching two gnuplot screenshots: fig1.png shows the first ~800 M of Psi4 l2,m2 real at r=136 M with the stock par file and with a modified par file for 4th order. fig2.png is a zoom-in. I'm also attaching the par file that I'm using for the 4th-order run. Now my questions: Does anybody have an idea where the high-f noise is coming from and why it's getting worth for lower FD order? Any suggestions on how to mitigate it? Thanks! - Christian

Error about a shared object file
by Hiro.Kig 03 May '17

03 May '17

Dear all I am Hiromitsu Kigure. This is the first time I send an e-mail to this mailing list. I am sending you this email to seek your advice. I use Einstein Toolkit in the following situation. ・OS:Fedora23 ・Executable:etilgrmhd (IllinoisGRMHD) The compile was done and executable file was made. However the following error message was displayed when execute the file. "error while loading shared libraries: libgsl.so.19: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" There was no problem few weeks ago. So I don't have any idea why the error occured. What should I do? ・Update the OS? ・Update the IllinoisGRMHD? (I don't use the latest version) I would appreciate it if you would give me some advice. Thank you, Best regards.

Re: [Users] [ET Trac] [Einstein Toolkit] #2031: Option to disable Piraha
by Erik Schnetter 24 Apr '17

I think the option should instead be to disable the old parser. The new parser already helped us find bugs in ccl files, and the new parser is the future. There is no known instance where the new parser silently have wrong results. Disabling it is being too cautious. -erik On Monday, April 24, 2017, Einstein Toolkit < trac-noreply(a)einsteintoolkit.org> wrote: > #2031: Option to disable Piraha > ----------------------+----------------------------------------------------- > Reporter: sbrandt | Owner: sbrandt > Type: defect | Status: assigned > Priority: unset | Milestone: > Component: Other | Version: development version > Resolution: | Keywords: > ----------------------+----------------------------------------------------- > Changes (by sbrandt): > > * owner: => sbrandt > * status: new => assigned > > > -- > Ticket URL: <https://trac.einsteintoolkit.org/ticket/2031#comment:1> > Einstein Toolkit <http://einsteintoolkit.org> > The Einstein Toolkit > _______________________________________________ > Trac mailing list > Trac(a)einsteintoolkit.org > http://lists.einsteintoolkit.org/mailman/listinfo/trac > -- Erik Schnetter <schnetter(a)gmail.com> http://www.perimeterinstitute.ca/personal/eschnetter/

Using "mpirun -np 2" make the program much slower ?
by 赵志超 23 Apr '17

23 Apr '17

Hello, everyone, I am a beginner in Institute of High Energy Physics, China. I am using ubuntu16.04 and my machine has two cpus: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2680 v4 @ 2.40GHz X2 I am trying to repeat "Gallery: Binary, inspiraling neutron stars forming a hypermassive neutron star" in http://einsteintoolkit.org/gallery/bns/index.html. I am using the par file and thornlist.th provided in the webpage. However, I found it runs slowly when I run with "mpirun -np 2 ./Cactus_sim nsns.par". It needs about 600s per iteration. All cpu's usage are 100%. Then I try to directly run with command "./Cactus_sim nsns.par", then it needs about 13s per iteration. All cpu's usage are 100%. And then, I try to run with "numactl --cpunodebind=0 --preferred=0 ./cactus_sim nsns.par", It only needs 2.5s per iteration. And just half cpu ( 28 of 56 )'s usage are 100%. I wonder is there some error? I think it should be faster when mpirun are used. Yours, ZhiChao.

GW150914 failing compilation
by Khamesra, Bhavesh 13 Apr '17

Hey everyone, Continuing the test of the ETK on Stampede-KNL, I ran into some issues. After some modification to optionlist, I was able to compile the einsteintoolkit.th thornlist using the development version. Then, I was trying to compile the GW150914 thornlist but ended up this error - CST Error: Repeated element 'tag' in metric_tmp Line: 190 File: /work/04082/tg833814/Cactus_ETK_dev/arrangements/Llama/WaveExtractCPM/interface.ccl Repeated item: tags in metric_tmp at /work/04082/tg833814/Cactus_ETK_dev/lib/sbin/interface_parser.pl line 881. main::parse_interface_ccl('Llama', 'WaveExtractCPM', 'ARRAY(0x237fd68)', 'Group=HASH(0x28d98a8)', 'HASH(0x23759e0)') called at /work/04082/tg833814/Cactus_ETK_dev/lib/sbin/interface_parser.pl line 103 main::create_interface_database(3, 'BINDINGS_DIR', '/work/04082/tg833814/Cactus_ETK_dev/configs/GW150914_KNL_test...', 'CONFIG_DIR', '/work/04082/tg833814/Cactus_ETK_dev/configs/GW150914_KNL_test...', 'CCTK_HOME', '/work/04082/tg833814/Cactus_ETK_dev', 'TwoPunctures', '/work/04082/tg833814/Cactus_ETK_dev/arrangements/EinsteinInit...', ...) called at /work/04082/tg833814/Cactus_ETK_dev/lib/sbin/CST line 135 I get this error even on my local machine (Red Hat 7) I am not sure how to resolve this one? Could someone please help? Also, is there any way to analyse the performance of the code for various simulations? Is there any thorn for this purpose? Lastly, I am still stuck with the BBox error on the GT code. Could you please suggest on how can I resolve this? Thanks Bhavesh .............................
