Hi, A quick update: I have recreated the Jenkins master and build nodes from backups, and have the new machines running. I am still waiting to hear from the NCSA security team concerning exactly what the vulnerability was. I can't make Jenkins available publicly until we are confident that the vulnerability is not still exposed. The same 5 tests that had been failing before are still failing, but I don't see any failures in McLachlan. North American Einstein Toolkit School and Workshop at NCSA
by Roland Haas 13 Jul '17

13 Jul '17

Hello all, the North American Einstein Toolkit School and Workshop will be hosted this year that NCSA, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from July 31 to August 4 2017 (http://www.ncsa.illinois.edu/Conferences/ETK17/). The Einstein Toolkit is a publicly available framework used by several numerical relativity groups in the world, with applications ranging from high-energy astrophysics to cosmology. This meeting is open to anyone interested in numerical relativity and computational astrophysics and cosmology and in particular to Einstein toolkit users. There will be a 3 day school from July 31 to August 2, 2017 that will introduce students and postdocs to the Einstein Toolkit and numerical methods related to it. After that, on August 3 to August 4, 2017, the Einstein Toolkit workshop will cover the most recent developments of the toolkit, offer the possibility for collaboration and discussions about future plans. Individual registrations for each of the school and workshop are now open on http://www.ncsa.illinois.edu/Conferences/ETK17. There, you will also find information on available hotels, hotel sharing and a tentative program. Information on financial support is available on the registration page. The initial deadline for applying for support is June 1, 2017. Separate registration is required for each of the school and the workshop. When registering for the school you have the option of listing topics of interest for the school and your level of expertise. For the workshop you can suggest discussion topics as well as register a title and abstract for a 5 minute presentation you would like to give. The Einstein Toolkit community in Europe will host a two day meeting in Palma de Mallorca, Spain October 11-13. For further information please do not hesitate to contact the organizers at etk2017(a)ncsa.illinois.edu. Yours, Roland Haas, for the organizers

HDF5 3D output separate time files
by Hayley Macpherson 22 Jun '17

22 Jun '17

Hello, I am using the Einstein Toolkit for cosmological simulations, and would like to ask a question regarding my HDF5 3D output. Currently I am outputting all 3D snapshots to one HDF5 file (as per default). I would like to have my output as separate files for each time snapshot, to help with ease of copying and visualisation in post processing. I found the following parameter in IOUtil, and changed it accordingly for a simulation: IO::out_timesteps_per_file = 1 However this made no difference to my output, I still had multiple time snapshots in the one file. Is there another way to separate my 3D HDF5 output into one file per snapshot? Any help anyone can offer would be much appreciated! Kind regards, Hayley Macpherson

release status
by Frank Loeffler 19 Jun '17

19 Jun '17

Hi A short update of the upcoming release: There are still outstanding issues that prevent going forward with the release (see https://docs.einsteintoolkit.org/et-docs/Release_coordination for current information). The most important are: - Some McLachlan testsuites are still failing. Peter wasn't able to find time to look at it, and won't have for the coming week. We need a volunteer to work on these. This is ticket 1995. - ExternalLibraries/MPI prevents Cactus from linking if built from the thorn-sources, on (at least some) Linux systems. The issue is described in ticket 2049. - Both SphericalHarmonicReconGen tests fail, for at least apparently different reasons (but since one is a segfault you never know) Otherwise, the tests seem to run fine, on the few machines I've tested them on. We obviously need to test a lot more machines, which is also still out-standing. Frank

EU Einstein Toolkit 2017 & Symposium in Honor of Ed Seidel
by Bruno Giacomazzo 19 Jun '17

19 Jun '17

Dear Einstein Toolkit users and developers, this is to announce you two meetings that will take place in Mallorca (Spain) from October 11 to 14: the "EU Einstein Toolkit Workshop" and "Black Holes, Red Square, and Blue Waters: A Symposium in Honor of Edward Seidel’s 60th Birthday". The first three days (October 11-13) will be dedicated to presentations and discussions concerning the development and applications of the Einstein Toolkit and will be open to developers and anyone interested in numerical relativity, numerical (magneto-)hydrodynamics, cosmology, gravitational wave data analysis and related fields. The workshop will present recent developments and allow for discussions about future directions of code development and applications. Friday evening and Saturday 14 will be devoted to a special event: “Black Holes, Red Square, and Blue Waters: A Symposium in Honor of Edward Seidel’s 60th Birthday (EdFest)”. The symposium will start with an evening reception on October 13. There will then be a day of invited talks on October 14 followed by an evening event. Both the workshop and the symposium will take place at the Club Pollentia Resort near Alcúdia in Mallorca. Deadline for hotel reservation is July 5th. Deadline for abstract submission (only for the Einstein Toolkit workshop) is August 1st. Early registration deadline is July 15. More information can be found of the webpage of both events at http://grg.uib.es/EinsteinToolkit2017/ Best regards, Bruno Giacomazzo on behalf of the SOC -- Prof. Bruno Giacomazzo Department of Physics University of Trento via Sommarive 14 38123 Trento Italy Tel. : +39 0461281631 email : bruno.giacomazzo(a)unitn.it web: http://www.brunogiacomazzo.org ---------------------------------------------------------------------- There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Frank agrees. All agree, will test this. * GRHydro ** still fails with NaN ** on Roland's plate * want these updates until Wednesday * test on machines, Frank request feedback for results on personal workstations * name for release, pick one from: https://docs.einsteintoolkit.org/et-docs/Release_Details Yours, Roland -- My email is as private as my paper mail.
