Thorn for coupled equations
by Nick Olsen 08 Feb '22

08 Feb '22

Hello everyone I have been trying to write a thorn to couple the Klein-Gordon equations to the 3+1 Einstein equations. I can't figure out the details on how to make the thorn tell the ET how to update T_munu according to the evolution equations. I've been trying to write the thorn with Kranc without much luck, as Kranc isn't telling me anything when it does fail. I have attached the .m of the attempted thorn here. If anyone has any input or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. Nicholas Olsen

First circular: 2022 Benasque conference “New frontiers in strong gravity”
by Helvi Witek 07 Feb '22

07 Feb '22

** *Dear colleagues,* * We would like to announce the two-week workshop “New frontiers in strong gravity” taking place in Benasque, Spain from Jul 03–16, 2022; please see the announcement below and the website http://benasque.org/general/cgi-bin/years.pl?ano=2022 <http://benasque.org/general/cgi-bin/years.pl?ano=2022>for further information. Limited travel funds are available, with priority given to PhD students and participants from underrepresented groups. To help us create a safe environment, we ask that all participants are fully vaccinated against Covid-19. We would appreciate it if you could forward the announcement to interested researchers in our field. We look forward to welcoming you in Benasque Helvi on behalf of the organizers (D. Blas, P. Figueras, L. Stein, H. Witek, S. Nissanke) New frontiers in strong gravity The highly nonlinear, strong-field regime of gravity holds the key to address long-standing puzzles in modern physics. These range from deeply theoretical questions concerning a consistent theory of quantum gravity and resulting modifications to general relativity, over the stability properties of black holes in traditional general relativity, to new insight into nuclear matter under extreme conditions in the context of neutron star and multimessenger astronomy. In this two-week workshop (Jul 03–16, 2022) we will bring together leading experts as well as junior scientists and PhD students in these diverse research areas, to encourage communication and training across the fields and to foster new research collaborations. Invited speakers include: Masha Baryaktar • Laura Bernard • Beatrice Bonga • Katerina Chatziioannou • Katy Clough • Mihalis Dafermos • Will East • Roberto Emparan • Tanja Hinderer • Aaron Kovacs • Macarena Lagos • Luis Lehner • Lionel London • David Mateos • Maria Okounkova • Carlos Palenzuela • Paolo Pani • Patricia Schmidt • Thomas Sotiriou • Rita Teixeira • Toby Wiseman • Nicolas Yunes The number of participants is limited. We ask students to upload a short CV (maximal 2 pages). Limited travel support will be available, with priority given to students and participants from underrepresented groups. To apply for travel support please include some text justifying your request for support on the registration page. Registration will close on May 31, 2022. Registration will open shortly. To help us create a safe and healthy environment, we ask that all participants are fully vaccinated against Covid-19. * -- --------------------------------------------- Dr. Helvi Witek Assistant Professor Department of Physics University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign 247 Loomis Lab 1110 W Green St Urbana, IL 61801 ---------------------------------------------

Segmentation Fault when compiling the tutorial
by silyx99＠gmail.com 31 Jan '22

I can't seem to make the tov_ET simulation work. Every time it reaches a definite time during the simulation, the code reaches segmentation fault. This is the terminal output And this is the backtrace 1. CarpetLib::signal_handler(int) [/home/sam/simulations/tov_ET/SIMFACTORY/exe/cactus_sim(_ZN9CarpetLib14signa l_handlerEi+0xb3) [0x56013afdf833]] 2. /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6(+0x46210) [0x7fbef30cd210] 3. /home/sam/anaconda3/lib/libgfortran.so.4(+0xf3c73) [0x7fbef3522c73] 4. /home/sam/anaconda3/lib/libgfortran.so.4(+0xf429e) [0x7fbef352329e] 5. /home/sam/anaconda3/lib/libgfortran.so.4(+0xf2900) [0x7fbef3521900] 6. /home/sam/simulations/tov_ET/SIMFACTORY/exe/cactus_sim(prim2conpolytype_+0x3 f6) [0x56013b464e06] 7. /home/sam/simulations/tov_ET/SIMFACTORY/exe/cactus_sim(+0xb9e28f) [0x56013b46628f] 8. /home/sam/anaconda3/lib/libgomp.so.1(GOMP_parallel+0x42) [0x7fbef329ce22] 9. /home/sam/simulations/tov_ET/SIMFACTORY/exe/cactus_sim(prim2conservativepoly type_+0x54f) [0x56013b472fef] I'm using ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS on wsl2, with a previous installation it worked just fine. I also tried with different combination of cores and threads buti t doesn't seem to matter.
