Number of levels.
by Bilal Hameed 20 Aug '20

20 Aug '20

Dear Users, I am running, repos/ctthorns/CT_MultiLevel/par/constraints_spherical.par. When I set refinement levels to 5 (in .par file) it's running and without any error gives outputs only up to 3-refinement levels. why not five refinement levels? I am working on 8GB RAM. No killing is shown.

Meeting Minutes 2020-08-20
by Hamilton, Maria 20 Aug '20

Call Chair: Peter Diener Minute taker: Maria Babiuc-Hamilton Peter starts the meeting by asking if there is anything else to be added to the agenda. Concluding after a silence that there is nothing to be added, he starts with the first two items on the agenda, namely BNS and BBH gallery testing. Roland says is there, Shawn Rosofsky is in charge with it, Atul confirms that is there and reports that the BBH testing is for the most part done and it is uploaded at the address: https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/www/branch/BBH_Gallery_test_2020_Augu… Peter goes to the next item, namely the proposed inclusion of ReadInterpolate, Roland’s thorn Roland explains that Yosef is reviewing, and asked for a specific test to confirm that the interpolator works, as well as and documentation. Everything should be in the master thorn list. Two test are running, interpolating TOV star, and it needs reviewed. He states that we are in the middle of the release, so it should be OK for inclusion. Peter ask about Power and Roland reports that there is more work to be done there: merge scripts, clean-up on scripts, documentation. The math and physics are there, but the user-interface is not. He concludes that is not yet of the quality to include in ETK in the next month or so, but meantime it is publicly available. Zach, as the reviewer for this thorn, concurs with Roland. The review has not started, and he foresees he will be continuously engaged with other commitments the coming months. Roland announces that Power will be retracted for this release. Zach expresses his interest in picking up Power in a few months, because he is looking for non-Mathematica based post-processing GW code. Peter follows up with NRpyPN, for which he is the reviewer. Although he did not start yet, he will free some time to start the review soon. Zach confirms that the code is ready for review, and asks Roland what he thinks about moving forward to larger package, by adding the eccentricity reduction code. Roland replies that the eccentricity reduction code is there, but it will also need a bit of work, maybe not as much as Power. He will make it public but does not have the intention to include it in the next release, because is not ready for lack of man power. On the todo list are a flexible parameter file to be written, flexible, and make it automated with simfactory. He prefers to keep it separately. Roland also entreats the reviewers to plan for lot of time for review. Peter goes to the unanswered questions on the mail list and concludes that there is no action to be taken there. Zach mentions the email requesting code for Kretschmann Scalar and states that is implemented both in NRPy and WeylScal4 thorn. He refers to a private conversation with the user that requested the Kretschmann Scalar code, regarding the fact that is a 4D quantity. Peter goes on to open tickets and please review and asks if there is anything in particular. Roland describes the work he has done in removing the old style interface of the stress energy tensor deprecated in 2011, without removing its functionality. He needed to change Exact, to no longer ADMCoupling and ADMMacros, removed ADMConstraints and changed to McLaughlin ADMConstraints. This is a major change, and all test pass. He does not yet propose to remove Coupling and Macro because there are many tests depending on them that need to be removed. Peter complements Roland for his work and declares end of agenda. Nobody has anything else to bring up, and the meeting is adjourned. Maria _______________________ Maria C. Attending: Steve B, Bill G, Peter D, Atul K, Roland H, Zach E, Yosef Z, Maria H, Miguel G, Helvi W Chair: Steve B Minutes: Bill G * LSU Online ET Workshop https://www.cct.lsu.edu/Einsteintoolkitworkshop https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzB9aSNzlOE_LF3c-72ZEmi9sTPHSJu54 Seemed to work out okay. Need the tutorial server to re-boot automatically, some web pages do not really exit. Currently three users are using 123% CPU right now and likely not real. Did work well. Peters tutorial needs to work better than having an extra compiled executable. ** Transitioning from NDSLabs to just the LSU machine. Ask to re-point the DNS entry to LSU from NDSLabs. Also the core flexibility up to 48 cores is easy with the LSU system...on a single node. To use more you have to span multiple nodes, and that is possible. ** Post workshop survey? Have we done that with the other workshops? No one recalls a post workshop survey. Sounds like a good idea. ** Steve has money for in-person meeting next year...assuming things loosen up with the pandemic. * Other Workshops ** No one knows about a European ET workshop and seems late to get one going. ** Barry Wardell Advances in Computational Relativity workshop at Brown University, Sep 9 to Dec 11, 2020. ET should be represented there. Zach and Peter are attending. https://icerm.brown.edu/programs/sp-f20/ ** Helvi is organizing LISA Waveform Working Group, sometime 7-11 September, 2 or 3 days long. Online with Zoom. https://lisasymposium13.lisamission.org/ ** KITP Santa Barbara Probing Effective Theories of Gravity in Strong Fields and Cosmology, Monday for three weeks, every day from 8 to 10am. Open and free since online. https://www.kitp.ucsb.edu/activities/greft20 * AMREX Especially want to know how the GPU support works. It can but down not have to use CUDA unified memory. Do not have to worry about keeping track of the data movement. They have a heat equation example to can run on the GPU and does so seemlessly. You can tell, because you give them a lambda funciton that tells them how to run. Multiple MPI processes with one GPU all run ont he one GPU, but does try to spread them out. IT is possible to have some on the CPU and others on GPUs but not recommended by AMREX because of load balancing. Zach, GPU related. The student that wrote a Latex to C code parser will be re-joining the efforts funded out of the gran and he will be working on GPU kernel output starting with CUDA and NRPy. Original plan is to look at NVidia sample codes, wave equation in 3D and build off of that. Steve, likes the idea of building on top of AMRex to have the most impact down the road. Zack, worried about speed-up if you do not get the finite difference equations right. Steve, the AMR is the hard part, need to do prolongation, restriction, and populate ghost zones and that is functionality you do not want to replicate. Zach, on the Kernel side generating the EEQs so that there is good performance seems the hard, important part. https://amrex-codes.github.io/ * Other topics - None * Unanswered Questions - None https://www.einsteintoolkit.org/tools/unanswered.php * Tickets - No discussion https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues?status=open&status=new… For Review, no discussion https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/tickets/issues?status=new&status=open… * Volunteers Chairs: Peter (Aug 20), Zach (Aug 27) Minutes: Maria (Aug 20), Roland (Aug 27) * Anything else Maria, do analysis and post-processing work? https://docs.einsteintoolkit.org/et-docs/Analysis_and_post-processing Roland, It is just a list and gets updated. Wolfgang K's PostCactus was just linked there, should be good. SimulationTools works. But we do not test these tools and even check that they still exist. Steve, should we check those tools? Roland, No. Bill, At least check the links maybe. Atul, Binary BH gallery, made a branch on GIT and updated the index file for that page. Atul, needs to be checked? Ticket? Maybe not, but link to ET bitbucket, as a branch, https://bitbucket.org/einsteintoolkit/www/branch/BBH_Gallery_test_2020_Augu… , click on View source, upper right. -- ===================================== William Gabella Research Assistant Professor Department of Physics and Astronomy Vanderbilt University Nashville, TN USA b.gabella(a)vanderbilt.edu (o) 615-343-2713
